Looked like it became more of a "breeder wanna be " thread rather than Brenda's progress / efforts. I would rather keep my thread separate as a noob when coming to ponies.. I would like to be treated as such

Thats great news Brenda .... still no figures for us ..... weak or strong ones ..... Then one day if we fortunate enough like you to be rearing young we got some numbers to go by as in mortality rates and so on .....
Well hold on folks if the female keeps up her handywork and the broods keep comming it will more than likely be an enormous amout of babies to be cared for ....lol Remember the stable she has... all those males..The excitement of this adventure is an amazing thing to watch, Brendas eyes light up when the (kids) are eating ( orange bellies rock ) its like watching small children on Christmas morning with their wide eyes. I have learned so much most by trial and error such as kreisel tank building , watching the babies on their merry go round feeding. It is so rewarding watching them grow, Building better and more effective sumps , the list goes on and on . And i am lucky enough to be tutored by Brenda. It is very rewarding knowing we are helping to preserve the wild ponies by raising our own. I would encourage anyone wanting to embark on this journey as as many questions as you have Brenda is incredible at knowing or finding the info we needed.
Chikaboo, this was an extremely small batch. With this being so small, the horse’s first pregnancy, me not even knowing he was pregnant, not having any food available for the first 24 hours.....I don't think this is a fair batch to compare to.
To add to it every horse is different, and not necessarily a good parent. They do however usually improve with time.
People who do this sort of think for a living are having about an 80% or more survive. I do this for a hobby and can't devote the 12 - 14 hours a day that others do. Even if I could, my spine injury wouldn't physically allow me to. I am lucky that I have Scott to help me. However, Scott and I used to be a 10 minute walk to each other's house, now we are a 30 minute drive. I still get a lot of help from him, but it isn't exactly the same.
There are many things that can go wrong in the next few months, brine, power, decontamination, hydroids, ciliates, the switch to frozen food….. the list goes on and on. Of course, I’d like each and everyone to thrive and survive, but to be honest, if only one makes it to be an adult it is still successful in my book.
I'm going to do a tank tear down, and sterilize everything once a week. Hopefully that will be tomorrow, and I will get a head count. The only ones I can count for sure at the moment are the dead ones, five total at day 6.
Yep! Cared for by someone else! LOL Unless you’re going to install a kriesel tank on your truck so you can take them to work every day! Have you thought about purchasing a Motor home??? You could live in it with the ponies! I’d let you park it in granny’s driveway!

He gave birth to 37, a few more than I thought. There have not been any deaths today, so there are still 32 remaining.
Busy day today! Lucy (often referred to as Lucifer) went to the vet today and got her 3 shots for the year. She's healthy, spoiled, and a little tired, but I’m surprised she’s not sick from all the treats the vet gave her. As usual she was a drama queen at the vet’s office and whimpered like a baby the whole time. She did however leave them the stool sample they wanted....on the floor, on her way out! It must have been those 6 treats the vet gave her to calm her down!
The fry tank was torn apart and sterilized. Most of them look like they are doing very well. Thank you Scott for doing all of the manual labor for me!!!! The fry wouldn’t still be here without you!

LOL! No!!! My previous dog's daily land mines weighed more than Lucy! I think I pick up more Seahorse poop every day than I do from Lucy.
On my previous set ups I had a sump with a filter sock. Unfortunately I didn’t have time to pull everything together this time. So for now I have an AquaClear HOB filter. When I’m ready to have the brine removed I place a brine shrimp net under the output of the AC filter and have the brine net drape partly over the kreisel so that as it places water in, it also forces water out, which the filter kindly places the brine in the brine shrimp net for me. Within 20 – 30 minutes it removes the brine out of the kreisel. I then do a cleanup off the bottom to pick up any waste before the next feeding.
I have to admit, I find the sump/filter sock much easier…..Maybe by the time the next batch arrives I’ll have it set up. Normally I have an Aqua C HOB skimmer and the AquaClear filter (with Purigen) in the sump.
Honestly I can’t tell the difference in the fry as to which method (sump/no sump) is better. I’m not used to dealing with such small batches of fry. Also this is my first batch of Erectus in 3 or more years. I’m used to Reidi. My first batch of Erectus was my first experience with seahorses EVER. It was supposed to be a babysitting experience for a week. When it was time for them to go home there were some that were extremely week that the owner and I decided it was best not to move them. A few of them made it to adults. After that I was given whole batches of fry from a few different people that were overloaded with fry. Some of them did well. Some were a total disaster because of a huge learning curve on my part!!!! Seriously, I managed to kill off 526 newborn fry in 2 days!!!! Not very impressive since they can typically live up to 5 days without food! That time food wasn’t the issue, it was the flow. They were either getting stuck at the top or getting sucked to the sponge covering the drain to the sump! No more expensive elaborate setups for me! The cheap, ridiculous, easy DIY setups are what I’m going to use.
