I expected to be up all night setting up, But by the time i got to Anemones house the new nursery was up and running. An enormous amout of work in a short amount of time she is a great Grandma!!!!!! lol Keep your fingers crossed the first batch is always a long shot but she sure improved the odds for these little guys.

All of the seahorse fry are still alive. But a lot of them are not eating. So I'm expecting a lot of deaths in the next few days.

hey brenda! i am so impressed that we have direct contact with thee pony whisperer ! now we can all pick your brains about these guys and hopefully have our own tanks with em in!(my mind is working overtime!) are you getting any sleep? you need to post a pic of grandma too cos we hear so much about her, it is time we met!
Well done, and hoping and praying the little fellows make it. Please congratulate Grandma as well, as she really played an integral part in all this and she is going to be a Great-Grandma.

The hanging mobile is so that they can hitch, only a few are hitching. Hitching posts give them a break so they don't exhaust all of their energy by swimming.
Yes, that is a goldfish bowl inside a normal glass tank. The airline that is inserted in the side of the bowl provides a circular motion to keep them off of the top. If they get to the top, they will get air in their bellies, and food will not pass through the air. I have some holes cut in the two flat sides of the goldfish bowl to allow the brine to get out, and for clean water to get in. There is a HOB filter on the tank, that keeps the water moving. A normal square, or rectangular tank is just too hard to keep them off of the top. I've tried it, and you have to have way too many bubblers going, and place them perfectly.....NOT fun!

Oh, BTW, this gold fish bowl setup is also known as a Kreisel tank. There are many different varieties.
These guys are now 3 days old, no deaths yet!

And very nervous. Day five is a very critical point. Those that are not eating will die.

Very stressful Crispin! A lot of effort goes into raising any fry. Lots of cleaning, water changes, and hatching food. It is a huge disappointment when you lose a batch.
Today (day 4) I pulled out the first dead baby seahorse.
I can definately start seeing a size difference between the stronger ones and weaker ones.

Born, bred then raised in captivity, what we have maybe overlooked is you have given that additional assisance for the ocean to replenish it's self. A few less Seahorses need to be removed from the wild...

I hope to live to see the day that seahorses are no longer removed from the ocean, and not because there aren't any left in the ocean. Whats nice about these babies is that their parents, and possibly grandparents, were also born and raised in captivity. I've never kept a wild caught seahorse, and never will.
