Propogating an Ritteri Anemone H. Magnifica

Whoa,ok thats puts a different perspective on things.I think you have inadequate lighting to attempt it firstly and secondly that doesn't appear to be a magnifica. Also you have the thing for a month and your convinced that its ready for fragging?

I suggest you don't frag it,but if you still decide to then take lotsa pics and let us know even if it fails,i wont tell you "i told you so" lol but if it fails maybe it can be a lesson for all of us.

;)

Selwyn , we spoke about this last night....do not attempt this, with a less than 50 % survival rate why would you want to try it.

would you play russian roulette with 3 bullets in the chamber....I dont think so.

These animals take ages to grow to size, dont stuff it up by trying something you really are not experienced enough to even attempt.

If it is splitting on its own it is usually due to stress , meaning something is wrong.

And BTW...the "I still have a reterri" SUCKS

I have had the anemone for over a month now. Lighting is a quad system HO lighting ODYSSEA, consist of 2x actinic 96W bulbs, 2x 96W 12000k daylight bulbs and 3 Blue Moon LED moonlights. 36 inch wide

Theory and practice are different things. Theres alot of reading on the the internet about how to do it, but how many sites give pictures of successful attempts?
That anemone has not even settled after been there for a month. Getting a bubble tip so soon is also not a good idea.

i understand what you are trying to say but no one seems to understand that i am not now going to propagate now, not the next month, or the month after. I am going to wait for the nennie to grow, split (if it wants to) then propagate. Most of the things found today were not done by NOT taking risks! I am using the time i have to research, make sure my water is in pristine condition, not just jump right into it with a blade. I will definatly take pics to show you guys the outcome. You can either agree with me or disagree it does not mean i am going to change my mind.

I am not going to comment anymore. You obviously do not want advice from people more experienced than yourself.

Putting a live animal's life in danger is not "taking a risk"..

Its RECKLESS and CRUEL

Mods delete if you like

Ok fine, i agree. I will not attempt this. Thank you guys for the info, and i understand that my idea was a bit too reckless. i will just let the little guy grown, and if he splits naturally yay, then il have to. I will stay far away from the butcher knives. :)

Your light unit does not have 96w bulbs, t5's dont come in that wattage. You have a total of 96w as frans pointed out, which is not enough to keep that anemone.

Ok, so i went down to the store room we have and the lighting box says 36 inch dual 192W. does that mean that is the total Wattage of the system?

Anemones should be kept by experienced people only. The H. magnifica should be kept by advanced anemone keepers. If you don't understand your lighting, you are not qualified to keep anemones. The H. magnifica is the most difficult to keep. It also has the highest light requirement. You don't have nearly enough lighting to keep this animal alive long term.

Also, mixing anemones is not a good idea. It should only be attempted by those who have a few years of experience keeping anemones, and only those who know when to pull the anemone from the system, and why.

Hi guys. i read an article and Dr Ron Schimek claimed to have done it my simply cutting through the mouth.

Thats a name I haven't heard in a while. I would like to see this article.

In 2007 I asked Calfo what species the anemone was that he was cutting. He didn't know! ;)

Thank you very much for the advice. I am adding a 125W metal halide light to my system with the 192W, would this be nearly enough? or should i try and swop the anemone with someone who has better lighting?

I would say swop with someone if you can...you are, after all, worried about it getting to big for you'r Tank..hence the start of you'r Thread...so this way it will have a better survival rate..after all, you'r Tank should be at least 9months old when introducing a Nennie...when you swopped it you can, in you'r own time, up you'r lights..and the ultimate upside is that the Nennie won't be Propogated...

Phoned my LFS, said i could bring it back and keep it with him till my lighting/tank gets sorted out.

You think though the addition of a 125W metal halide light to my 139W quad light and a more matured tank could house the ritteri?
