Hey guys, so tomorrow i get all my new equipment for my 4ft. also getting another 10kg LR.

This is what my 3ft looked like.

my son ate my camera , once back from repairs will post pics of the 4ft, any advice on my setup will be appreciated

I'm embarassed to mention the old euipment that came with my 3ft from the pet store but I did some home work & decided on the following:
HX6530 Return Pump
TS1 Skimmer
Seio Blower.
Thats what was in my budget range, if my wife allows me, i intend to go bigger towards the middle of this year. :thumbup:

I don't want to add any more LS at the mo but would like to get more corals & softies. any suggestions as to what i could add to get it looking like most of the tanks I've seen so far on this site? Much appreciated.
 
Thanks marius, i'm really getting into my tank now, my wife said she gonna get me snorkel set so i can sit in with my guys :) if only i could!!
wasn't sure on painting back glass but i'm glad i did ;)
 
Tank looks nice man, but my opinion on the sump. I would remove the bio-balls and ceramic rings. They only convert ammonia to nitrites and then to nitrates - this is where it stops, although good at a petshop as they do it well, but in our home aquariums it won't work when you want to keep corals and invertebrates as they are sensitive to high nitrates. A DSB converts nitrates to nitrogen which is harmless. Macro algae like chaetomorpha also "consumes" nitrates.

Seeing that the area is too small for a DSB, rather put some chaeto in there with a energy saver globe on a reverse cycle, meaning that it comes on at night - helps to keep the pH a little bit more stable ;)

Skimmer is cool, but don't overstock as a TS1 is only rated for 400l and it's recommended that a skimmer is rated twice the system volume. A TS2 is rated for 750l... I think :p

thanks for the advice tobes, will look into the chaeto :thumbup:
 
Looking good there yes. I agree with Tobes, and just have to add that you might wanna relook that substrate. It is quite coarse and detritus will pack in there easily, and that can cause ammonia issues.

Try and get a finer substrate, washed playsand will be fine, but if possible get aragonite. You need about sugar fine substrate, as detritus just lies on top of it, and never really get stuck inbetween the particles.

Hope this makes sense, but I would really recommend that.:)

Thanks Jaco, how much of aragonite do you think I would need? where can i get?
 
there is no need for arogonite, its expensive and only works at PH of 7 or lower and marines run at 8+, save money use playsand and buy livestock with savings

Thanks dallas. Again, how many kg playsand would i need? is it the type you would find in a toy store (Reggies) for your kid's sand pit?
