Mekaeel's New SPS Reef tank

You actually need to talk to the guys that designed and built the building when it comes to the design of the floor structure not the sup.... just be VERY careful.... that 200KGs might just be the straw that will break the camels back...

Just take into account that Mekaeel's building has been built in the early 80's - when the buildings was still built to withstand REAL EARTHQUAKES!

Not like today's buildings where cost-saving is the MAJOR factor in building new buildings....

if you say so.... i had an eng here the other day that raised his eyebrows when he quickly did the maths of the 2.5 on my floor.... which is sitting on a solid re-enforced concrete slab which in return sits on mother earth.....

LOL! I know engineer's - they are ALWAYS FAR FAR FAR FAR over the top! It's not the engineer's that I worry about...

It's the builders / developers who "cut corners" that I would really worry about!

Jacques, you are correct. When I was renovating the flat, the builder picked up two blocks of broken up cement from the wall, he told me to feel the difference in the weight of the 2, and it old piece was much heavier than the new piece. He the dropped both to the ground and the new piece (+- 5 years old) broke into pieces, where as the old block just left a few crumbs on the floor, and that showed the strength of it.
By the way, the building was built about 40 years back ;)

By the way on the roof we have 3 of these huge JOJO drums (Cant remember total water volume now) that supplies water to the building, they stand with no hassels.
I should also add that Cell C also has their huge container on the top aswell. They have chosen this building because of the strength of the floors.

Just to keep you guys updated. I managed to get half the day off and did some work on the tank.
Fitted the extra bracing and made the tank a eurobraced tank. Stuck on ABS sheeting on the back and sides of the tank. Redesigned the sump a bit.
I will update the thread soon with some progress pics ;)

Thanks Lanzo. No, we all sat and had a chicken and rice dish at 12:00am :p

And guys, Humz can cook, boy it was lovely:thumbup:

lol, i'll pass the compliment to her lighty :)
The stand needs to go over to a tank builder, but his bakkie is broken down, he said he can only collect next week. He will make the stand into 3 pieces.

A South African version of "Mega builds" or "Really big things" coming soon to a computer screen near you :whistling:
