After the broken skimmer episode i don't want water all over the floor. So if skimmy begins to wet skim there's less risk of flooding.
2 pump unit is to much for the tank Smithy, That skimmer is rated for 850L I have max 300L in my tank.

its a little hight at the moment Mash, its 2000L p/h, Adriaan suggested making it 800-1200 (comments plz)
With the skimmer's return fully open its in the skimmer neck up to the collection cup if that makes sense?

Thats perfect.Just sort out that flow through the skimmer.
This skimmer is meant to skim the entire volume of a 800L tank in an hour.
You are double that amount at the moment with your tank!!!
Also you creating to much turbulence creating the bubbles to pop prematurely, hence releasing proteins back into the water column.

Hey Copperband, acording to what I can see on your pics looks like you got exactly the same tank as me 300L what size is your sump?
sump is about 60L to 70L.
chamber 1 - where overflow comes in and feeding and returning skimmer
chamber 2 - bio rings
chamber 3 - carbon
chamber 4 - return to tank and some LR
