Reef Octopus DNW 150-6350

LOL, I was trying to figure out what it was when I got the skimmer cos if you look on the instruction sheet for the assembly they do not include the silencer nor show where it goes, I suspected an air regulator of some sort.. I had the Octo 150 running for a week before I fitted the silencer *POOF* the silencer made a big difference, but there is still a noise from the pump.. nothing a well fitted cabinet door won't fix !

Silencer is on Muz and unfortunately I can't fit the skimmer under my cabinet, its standing next to it.

Copperband you try and switch it on & off?
A buddy of mine also makes a rattling noise now.
Gonna try and fix it tonite and give you a solution...

Ok just had a chat to Scott. There was a problem with one or 2 of the DNW 150 where the pump is noisy. Easiest solution is to wrap some plumbers tape around the impeller magnet to ensure a snug fit and the noise goes away.

Scott was happy to have me bring the pump in and fix it, I'd rather fix it at home as its less shlepp than driving out to Midrand.

THANX Scott!!!

ok correction guys..

Scott just phoned back.....wrap the plumbers tape around the plastic part of the impeller. So you pull the impeller out oft he magnet. Ryan did the first "mod" and recons you use 5 or 6 layers of tape. So just heads up its not around the magnet but around the plastic bit of the impeller just above the magnet.

Sweet !..

Cool Copperband, glad to hear it's sorted.

You know the outflow pipe.. the adjustable one, where do you have that? Do you place it on the water level or above? I have mine about 2cm above but just guessing?

Update:

I've done all the mods and the skimmer is working like a dream. I've never seen so much skimmate in my life. Everything in the tank just looks happy.

Lesson learnt: Buy right equipment the first time.

I'm very chuffed.

I need to see your tank with its lights on this time to see how clean and sparkly this beast is making your water.

Definitely before dark this time. 3am is waaaaaay too late for me....
