Let the Build Begin

WOW Pads! Tank is looking awesome mate! Sorry about the bracing that cracked.

Light unit too looks quite good - what about a pic from the other side too (bottom end up?)

Also - fantastic design on the overflow......

Pat looks good but rather create a durso with a 90 degree pipe facing down. Without out that your going to have a MONSTER Gurgling sound and its not pretty. The skimming of the surface happens when the water flows over the overflow into the chamber. You've seen how mine was done and it works like a charm!

For sure, I'm a bit lazy on sketchup will definitely make a 90° on the pipe. I think i need two overflow lines one feeding the skimmer in the sump and the other the ATS. I guess I'll just build a larger internal chamber.

Thx, left all the pics on the wifes laptop. Hope they come back tonight. I'll post more tomorrow.

sorry to hear about brace cracking but we all hit bumps on the
road to awsomeness
BTW i see our tanks are almost the same size

Thx mate, Ja lucky we do a fresh water test before filling up SW for nothing.
I'm looking forward to getting to the LEGENDARY stage. Might take a while. A long while...

Pics as requested. I built the housing for the MH Reflectors & Lamp Holder from Aluminium Angle Bar. This has a groove to slide in the tempered glass, I just need to employ a catch system to fasten the glass in place. Either side of the MH's I plan to attach 2 or 4 T5's depending on how well the MH's work. I've bought 2 x 14k & 1 x 20k globes. I feel I may need to supplement with a few 10k T5's.

WOW! Those are awesome reflectors, mate! Thanks for the pics!

Very cool Pat keep the work up!

Nice DIY skills pads

Shotto guys. Gave the inside of the hood another coat of paint this afternoon. I'm gonna bend my T5 reflectors tomorrow. Just gotta get that silly glass. It would be so much easier to leave it open :whistling:. More updates soon! Anyone you know who has a 40mm Glass Holesaw?

Here some more pics. Bent the T5 reflectors in the workshop. Stupid bending machine give me rubbish round bends. But they're done and I didn't kill me hands doing it.

Took the protective tape off the MH Reflectors. AWESOME :slayer:

Hey Pads,
Great diy job there, just want to know why did you place the MH bulb across the short end of the reflector and not place it length ways?
Cheers

I wanted the light to be spread predominantly horizontally and not vertically. Plus I make the housing a little wider than necessary so I found that my reflectors came out rectangular instead out being square. I haven't tested them over the tank yet so I can't tell whether I've made the correct choice. I'm happy so far though.

Hey Pads,
Thanks for the info, great job again. Did you use alanod for the reflectors?
Cheers

No worries. Yeah, I got Inflames leftover Alanod. This stuff is awesome to work with the only thing I don't like is the fact that if you don't work on a level surface and with precision the surfaces don't come out straight.
