How to use zeolite

Thanks Scuba Assassin:p

SO I got my zeo reactor today and the stones arrived yesterday from George. I've hooked it up and its doing about 220 LPH to ease my tank into the system. Lets see how things pan out. How long before the legendary mulm develops?

One thing I noticed today at the pet shop is that they had Kent Ammonia sponge which is zeolite. Would this not work as a 1.5kg tub was just under R200-00, a third of what I paid.

Tony, have you not noticed any mulm on your rock work since the dosage of Vodka?
Sorry no idea about Kent brand.

No Mek. What does it look like?

For fresh or salt water?

For saltwater Alan. That's why I was curious and it looks pretty much like the Tunze zeolith

Yes then I did have it. I stopped with the vodka dosing because of the cyano but I remember having it before. I flushed the reactor today and the water did cloud up a bit so I think things are looking up unless that was just dirt but then I cleaned the zeolith like mad.

That is 100% normal Tony. You will notice tiny particles being released from the reactor everytime you flush it. So are you back on the Vodka doing?

That kent stuff is awesome.i used the nitrate sponge and it lasted for over six months keeping nitrates below detection,i removed it and a week later my nitrates were sky high!which pet shop stocks it tony?

Falcon VIP in Northgate has it. The have 1.5 and 3kg packs

Mek, I am on the vodka again now that the cyano is gone. I'm also using the seachem stability and Prodibio for bacteria

Mek, I'm on two ml of vodka per day adding 5ml of seachem stability every second day along with Vitachem for amino acids to feed the corals. I'm using 750ml of zeolite with 400lph running through the reactor. One thing I have noticed is that my tank glass is staying cleaner and the green alga that builds up in the corners of the tank is going away. My corals are looking a whole lot happier and my nitrates have come down by 0.5ppm over a period of four days. The water in the reactor goes cloudy every time I flush the reactor which is twice per day.

i to am dosing vodka. and the big thing i have noticed is a lack of a film building up on my glass. corals have brightened up to.
go VODKA!!
i dose 2ml a day..

Lappiesreef. Go to reefkeeping.com and look for an article called "Vodka dosing distilled". This will explain how to do things

Thanks Tony. Will do.

Have been reading a bit on it before I started. Usually the articles for Vodka dosing are much stronger than the ones against it.

I guess the biggest danger is to have a bacterial bloom that takes out too much oxygen crashing everything... ?

Excellent news Tony! Dose you Vodka, 1ml in the morning and one ml in the evening.
How about a pic of the reactor?

Mek, I add the stuff at once in the morning

I will take one tonight. Its a reef octopus reactor. The only problem was the OTP pump that came with it was rated for 2000lph. The water was gushing throught the reactor so I went to a pool shop got new unions and put a 500lph pump with a gate valve to regulate the flow. Now it's perfect.
