I've ordered some Zeolite from George and was wondering how to use it? I want to build a reactor as I find 2K a bit steep for a glorified Kalk stirrer. Any help would be appreciated regarding close up pics of a reactor so I can build one and how the stuff actually works

Tony, check out this link, you will find some DIY Reactors Reactors - zeovit.com
Otherwise you can run it in a mesh bag and shake it a few times daily.

What does the stuff do for an SPS tank and is the reactor better to use? I've read that one has to run the reactor at three hour intervals to almost cycle the stuff

Holds bacteria Tony, and every time you flush it, it releases it back into the system. The reactor is much better to use, keeps your hands dry.lol.

Just to add, the actual purpose of Zeolites is to remove Amonia and Ammonium directly. This way it helps prevent Nitrites and Nitrates from forming. So at the same time, when you flush the reactor, it removes all detritus that might have collected in the media.

Please remember that not all zeolites can be used in sea water as the only componant that certain zeolites remove faster than amonia is calcium.

These are the Zeolites from Goerge at Aqua Africa. Are you telling me that I can't use them because that's not cool?

Noooo not at all, just a general warning to folks out there that you cant use any zeolites in salt water, those from George and Zeovit are fine for salt water.

OK, so I've chesced out the guide to using Zeovit and it seem quiet complicated.

Can one use things like Prodibio instead of the B-Bac?

Does one need all the supplements, conditioners and elements?

Does anyone bring the Zeovit range into SA?

Tony, im sure you can use Prodibio instead of Bac.
I only use the stones, Food7 and vodka.
Sunburst hasnt used Bac for a long time and hasnt noticed any changes.
Sunburst, Preshan and I are planning on ordering some of the Zeo supplements directly from KZ and no one in S.A has.

As Mekaeel has said the original use for Zeolites is to absorb amonia, this in itself will be a help in any system. Personally i would just go this route to start.

Hey tony, i was doing research into using zeovit etc aswell and looking at what i can replace in the regime,
    In zeovit you need
    Zeovit
    Zeobac
    Food 7
    Zeostart

But these can be replaced, in your (our) case there is
    zeovit -Zeolite
NSW WC would give enough bacteria to defer the need for zeobac
food7 can be sidestepped by using coral frenzy etc or pish poo:whistling:
Zeostart which is bacteria food is replaced by vodka

So that means it would only really be necessary for the main component zeolite:p
