Background Ideas Please

Morning Reefers,

Well I have been toying with the idea of a tank in my office - bigger than the Nano I had (1200 x 500 x 600), with full sump etc.

Decision is not made yet, but if I did I was thinking of a different background?

Not just painted outside & then left for coraline algae to grow.

Was thinking of glueing substrate, rock chip pieces etc to the background?

> What are your thoughts (anyone have photo's)
> What are pit falls?
> Any other ideas, to be different?

I saw some with LR glued...Have to search the web for that again...actually here is one on MASA....I posted on the Thread...I can't seem to find it again...someone asked the same question... will look...although the one I'm refering too on MASA..is not "glued LR"...

And over the past few decades, live or artificial rock of one kind or another has been the substrate of choice when it comes to making many aquarium environments look natural, especially those in marine reef aquariums.

Nevertheless, brick wall-like live rock linings of back and possibly side aquarium panels greatly limit the aquarist from being able to clean behind them. And with age, the rock in some environments become encrusted with algae and corals, making it even more difficult or impossible to see the surface areas behind them, not alone clean those areas. And when that happens, water flow between these ‘rocks’ becomes restricted or nil, and once maintenance in any area fails to keep pace with it needs, such stacking of rock can contribute to a decline in water quality since it’s a perfect place for detritus to collect.

During this timeframe, while searching the Web, I became aware of two products, Great Stuff by DOW, and a product called Spraydekor, already being used by some aquarists, but was unable to find any clear-cut results or long-term use comments about them anywhere on the web!

As belinda said, there is someone here on MASA that has done the rockwork background, looks quite neat aswell.

You'r welcome...pity I can't find that MASA Thread...been searching all the Threads I posted on and some of those Tank Threads are more than 79 pages...:eek:...then I'm also looking specifically for photo's...:eek:..tomorrow is a new month....:thumbup:..and I'll be loaded with MB...I'll get that sucker tomorrow if someone doesn't find that thread today..:thumbup:

I dont know what your preferance is, but I find backgrounds that are covered in rock take away the illusion of depth in a tank....they almost seem a bit cluttered and clustrophobic.....not saying it wont look good if careful thought is put in.

You already do a hell of a good job cleaning your current tanks back ground (so it appears anyways) Why not try a different take on the coloured background....perhaps a very different colour or variation on the whole back ground approach

lol I only remebered the thread as he is in Germany and i was looking at similar stuff for a big tank i was planning :) glad it hellped save your eyes and cap:)
