Ive just seen your thread now Dean and the pain of repålacing panells and WS etc etc youve been through must have been realy frustrating at the time.

that ozone unit looks great, please will you post a few pics of it once youve installed it, id be interested in seeing it.

Thats a lovely tank you have, realy looking forward to seeing it stocked and grow out :)

great system :) .. Just went through the thread now

So i saw this tank on sunday morning and man oh man, is this a reefers playground... huge tank, loads of space, high tech equipment and seriously ,like the best their is:blush:...

well done on a truely awesum startup, possibilitoies are endless with that setup, its up to you to show us the best you can get out of it, awesome tank:thumbup:

thanks for the props ,
i am lucky to be alive today - had a mini heart attack last night.
was finishing off plumbing yesterday for the UV and Ozone at around 4, and everything worked great .
had a small braai and dinner and mom in law , had a look at the tank around 8pm. she said the tanks making bubbles.
had a serious freak , went to the tank , and the elbow , on one of the fitting had come loose and water was flowing out the sump, all over the floor
not worrried about the floor as it was outside, turned everything off , and tank decided to back siphon into sump.
that ended up nearly overflowing , so today , will be putting siphon break on return pipe.
so last night fixed the elbow , and made sure it was secure , but was up 4 times last night , freaking about the tank
at least it is not on my main line , but still worried as hell.

Here are some pics after the work done yesterday

Dean do you have a Quarenteen system for this tank? i would highly recommend it, especially as you have done such a good job so far.

@crispin
thanks for the message
not yet , i have been concentration on corals , after my problem i have with WS and so have only purchased some more Livestock this week , after about a 4-5 week break
most of my purchases have been hardy fish , to ensure i have no flair ups.
i will try and let my tank mature a little further before i look at any other "complex fish"

a QT , is next , as i have a small tank and a HOB skimmer, only problem is space , and obviously keeping that up and running
will see how my demands go and then take it from there

so i said i would post pics of the livestock - and my intentions were there .
got the camera , and as i started - battery died
so i will post live stock pics tonight or tomorrow

i have been galavanting around cape town , picking up corals from various sellers
thanks to @Ayoob and @mornewil for meeting me this week end , even though i got horribly lost on my way to @Ayoob
was amazed at @Ayoob SPS tank , is it crystal clear and look amazing

ended up picking up some frags from @ ayoob and hopefully they will develop into some big corals over time

your tank is looking great DeanT, but that flush of green over the rocks and the diatoms on the sand and glass show that this is still a very younge system. it will pay you dividends in the long run to go nice and slow and let the tanks filtration catch up.

Lovely selection of corals, nice mix of frags.

have you done a night crawl and had a look at the pod life and bristle worms etc? do you know what to look for? It would be good to leave the pod population to grow out a while so with low predaytion (that radiant wrasse will be eating them fast!) as they will help greatly in keeping the tank clean for you.

@crispin
thanks for the advice , system is still quite young , so keeping live stock low to ensure i have no problems.
corals all seems to be doing well .
i havent done a night crawl just yet , will do one soon and see what come out

Great thread will follow up on progress, was meaning to check it out. Well done on not giving up that easy dude, real fighter. You also have some serious equipment to achieve and amazing reef so Goodluck and keep up the good work.

So not sure if any of you picked up from my post in the anenome section, but I have been housing a slightly damaged anenome.
I have really been watching him day by day, got some advice from @scubaninja and glad to say nennie seems to be getting better.
Has been eating on a daily basis and given me a few stresses, but today I was amazed.
Got home from work and something looked unusual.

To my delight (I hope) nennie had moved a little and was open.
Ene though it has been feeding daily, I never got much out of it, so today when it moved I only thought this could be positive.

I am still feeding it ,and will probably end up keeping it, as the work going into getting it better has been more than I had bargained for.

Will post livestock pics and some other update over w end or early next week.
