Sentari's New Tank

Sump details

Hi Sentari

Please tell me more about your sump.
Im still a newbee and i like to do research.

what is the second chaber for?

No1 the skimmer
No2 ?
No3 DSB
No4 Retrurn

Your tank looks cool

Thanks!

and Welcome!

Best setup anyone can have is the following.

Skimmer - DSB - Return (Reactors inside or outside)

The second partition was used as a bubble trap. I have removed that now. I dont see a use for it.

My tank is looking stunning now. Next year i will post more pics. At the moment there's 3 corals in the tank. Nothing fancy. 15 other corals are sitting in a friends tank which will be placed back soon.

I had a huge battle with GHA (Green Hair Algae) let me tell you its not the nicest thing. But with good maintainance and husbandry i got it right!

Start a thread and tell us what you thinking of planning.

Filtration
Tank size / Sump size
Skimmer size
Lighting
Stocking

If there's one bit of advise i can give you which i should have done at the start...

BIG SKIMMER, twice the capacity
GAC - Granular Activated Carbon
Phos remover
Live Rock
Bacteria and carbon source

Also keep things slowly... dont rush into it.

hi

Ive already started with my tank.
Ive just added 7kg of live rock into my tank.

Tank size.
1200x550x600 10mm glass
Sump
800x330x550 6mm glass
Reeftek skimmer. TS2 or something like that.
(Got it second hand from a buddy)

1x return pump
1x 3000l power head

thats about it.

Some little things too.
But i still need lighting but im low on cash now.

Thinking about just getting some stupid energy savers just for the start.
Wont put any coral in yet then. Will be fish only then.

Do you maby know about any body that wants to sell ligthing?

CW out

Look at the for sale forum you'll always find something.

Dont use any lighting while you cycling. Or while you dont have anything in the tank.

My lighting only runs for 4 hours. I dont have much corals in the tank and i'm happy with it like that.

Comes on in the morning to feed the fish. Then later when you get home.

Dont you energy savers you might cause algae growth.

No im not using any lighting now.
Will get some bofore i put fish in.

Ok cool. What sould i use then for a cheap method before i get something beter.

Im looking in getting something lik a 2xatinic and 2Xwhite clobe t5 unit with moonlight led`s.
What do you think?

And then do i build my own canopy?

Quick update on my tank.

Algae was gone before i went on holiday. Seems to have returned. So been doing big water changes and dosing carbon source and bacteria.

I also seem to have a diatom outbreak.

Enjoy!

nice local zoa's.
Just check very very carefully. That there are no small crabs hiding in between the polyps. Also no Sundail snails. They are zoa predators.

ooops too late. Already in the tank. Hopefully your ok. Small colony, if somebody was hiding, you should have seen him.

Thanks Riaan!

I did check and make sure there were no predators. The Zoa's were in my QT tank for a week. Couldnt see anything.

I got 3 different types. Those green one's. Huge Yellowish one's and grey with yellow one's.

Besides that i kept to your recommendation for snails (being the helmet type) and blue eye'd hermits.

did the blennies survive the trip back. I do not have luck with them.

Hi RiaanP.

How you doing today?
Ive got a Q for you.

Ive got a Midas Blenny.
Can i add more then two blennies and must they be the same( midas )
or can they be deferent ones?

as always it depends.
But Midas stays higher in the tank. And I think they are ok with lawnmover blennies. and Midas will find a hole somewhere to live in, just sticking his head out at some times.

But then lawnmover blennies and yellow watchman gobies do not go to well together. Both like the substrate zone.

Hi RiaanP

Cos id like to get more blennies. i like them.
But i realy want a Blue Cheek Goby. Or anything similar to it cos i want him to clean the substrate beter than the hermits. the look a bit slow. hehe.

BE CAREFUL BOET THESE ALMOST ALWAYS DIE AFTER A FEW MONTHS!

Why?well simple really you need a huge very very mature tank running for a few years already with lots and lots of substrate as these fish don't eat dirt out of the substrate they sift the substrate to find little "goggas" that grow there...

I don't think your tank will have enough of these to sustain them so best to not get them bud as they dont eat anything else and I have yet to see anyone keeping them successfully for over a year.

I also had two a few years ago in my mature 680lt tank and they both died of starvation after a few months they did not even eat live brine shrimp etc that I tried to feed them:(

get some bristle worms to clean your substrate;)
