Sentari's New Tank

Sure they are great however Most important for you right now is live rock but lets not mess up sentari's thread we'll do this in your thread bud;)

Ok cool.

Ill create a new one. Cya

Hi RiaanP

Cos id like to get more blennies. i like them.
But i realy want a Blue Cheek Goby. Or anything similar to it cos i want him to clean the substrate beter than the hermits. the look a bit slow. hehe.

Cya

Blue cheek or Golden Head gobies. Need a mature tank, enough sand. They take mouthfuls and swim up a bit, then sift the sand out. Problem with that I found, is the coarser substrate, they swim up higher into the current, then sift. Dropping sand all over the low laying stuff like plate corals. If you rockwork is steep and up, like mine is now, its no problem.

I had one for over a year. A female. She did eat flakes and other frozen food I fed. Even lived happily for a couple of months in a 90L tank. But Yes, not all of them do eat flakes.

the hermits in the pics looks like the Yellow Tips. Also good, get to about 20mm. Blue Eyed, got one bigger claw and bottom part is white. They get to about 30mm. I like both, Blue eyed looks nicer, but Yellow Tip is less likely to push smaller rocks and corals from the live rock stack.

I know some guys do not like the Blue Eyed, apparently they damage some corals. But I feed mine extra, once a week, small pieces of hake or one frozen black mussel. (just defrost the hake or mussel, and break it into smaller hermit size pieces).
Just watch your skimmer, it goes crazy, a big bio load crap that it now needs to take out. But hermits seems happy.

Put your temp thing in the sump.

where is the pic of the blennies you brought with?

Haha! Yes i've been meaning to do that for some time :)

I'll try snap a shot of him today. He's a pain to find. Usually he's in the overflow then jumps out for a quick swim. Havent been able to find his partner thou. Will try find him today.

Hi riaan. I also have my temp in the top of the tank. But i put mine in the top of the return chamber.

Is that ok?
Why must you put it in the sump?

less equiptment in the tank, less eyesore.

Also another place where algae can not grow on.

And Urchins can bite through that cable, and Sentari got one.

I see.

Cool. Thanx

Been using Microbelift special blend on my tank for the last 2 months. Have seen an improvement in the water. Still have some Algae growth. I feel that my DSB is causing this.

What i have done is the following also.

  • Added a NP Pellet Reactor with 250ml of Pellets. I will increase this to 500ml over the next 2 weeks.
  • Cleaned out my skimmer
  • Added a filter sock to the overflow.
  • Cleaned out the top layer of the DSB.
  • Removed the Cheato. The reason for removing the cheato was because i had tons of feather worms that were living in the cheato and growing out of control. I've managed to remove all the feather worms from the Sump for now.
  • I've left caulpera in the sump and hopefully this will grow nicely.

I have an idea that my DSB is causing the Nitrates and Phosphates.

I will be removing the DSB once the NP Pellets have kicked in.

I will be replacing the DSB with new Cheato and Caulerpa and hopefully this will just help my filtration some more.

Any thoughts?

I also purchased a lovely BTA Anemone i will be adding pics soon. He's settled nicely.

However he's managed to pic a spot around some Zoa's. I'm also wondering if this is a good idea. I also know you cant move him. Just wondering if he will be okay.

Should not. As the DSB primary goal is to remove that.

Cleaned out the top layer of the DSB.

Settlement on the DSB, loads of detritus, cheato pieces collecting on the sand? What is your flow across the DSB. Is it not too slow?

At this point i shouldnt be having this problem unless my test kits are lying. My nirates are 50 and Phos is 0.1. I also still have algae growth.

2000L/h lifetech pump for return. I also dont have cleanup crew cause my water above my DSB is shallow. and my DSB is at 15cm and water is 5cm higher. So its very shallow.

Flow rate depends on sump width. Same pump on a 300mm wide sump compared to a 600mm wide sump will deliver double the flow. If you add food inside the water (not on top) high up in first chamber, when it goes over to DSB chamber, how far into DSB area does it go before it settles.

A hermit can run around in 5cm water.
