RSM 250 - And it starts!

Great stuff absolute fantastic tread , this is also a huge learning curve for me as i have also started my new RSM 250 two months ago .It seems to be doing very well
(water parameters ok)however i was struggling with lots of hairy algae growth .My tank is still stock standard as supplied but i will study your upgrades carefully and improve my system

GHA is a problem with any new tank, I suggest getting a mexican turbo snail, they go to TOWN on GHA! have you started a thread for your tank?

viper357 : its called a NANOREEF skimmer, they make them specially for smaller tanks like the buyo's and RSM's etc. cost a bundle to import but working like a bomb!

Very good looking tank !!

Great Stuff!

Great thread! Tank looking amazing!

I have been reading up on the RSM 250 threads... not many though.

I will soon be in the market for one. Should have saved enough in about 3 months or so. Will then start my own thread.

Could you possbly give a summary of all the pro's and con's for the RSM 250? I am not yet 100% decided... :confused1:

Hi Dizzyg

Whereabouts did you purchase those cabinets? I would like to place the same ones next to my RSM 250 (when I get it) ;)

Ho commando, pro's are it looks absolutely great and is self contained, the lights are fantastic, the skimmer works like a bomb even though I upgraded mine but the standard one is good, the return pumps are good everything it comes with is just of brilliant quality and I havent had any issues with any corals growing in it!

cons are its hot, you need a chiller for summer and ... its too small, haha, but as a starter tank or someone who doesnt have the space its the best, no doubt.

the cabinets came from www.qaf.co.za, I just emailed them the sizes, they sent me drawings back, i approved them and R750 each and some money for delivery they were with mer 3 weeks later, I put some pillows on so you can sit on them and watch the tank and the extra storage is great for me since I dont have a garage to keep things in.

if I was doing it over Id go for the RSM again no question, my only thing is next time im going bigger!

Hi Dizzyg

Will you be continuing with this thread? Would love to watch this tank keep developing (until you upgrade to the RSM 500 ... whenever it arrives in SA).

I am almost sold on the idea of a RSM 250... waiting for more people to give me feedback on the tank. It appears as though most LPS's are selling it for around R13K - R20K. Hope to find a good deal soon...

its just a battery backup for the main pumps, it was +- R1000, its not necessary but I keep it just in case.
I make my own RO water with a RO : DI from waterboy (Home | The Waterboy) but you can fetch RO water from your LocalFishShop
