Reef Octopus DNW 150-6350

errr rofl no Huzzah!!!! the tank was a FW canister setup i converted so I had to plumb and install the sump last night. I didn't want to drill holes so I used a auto start symphon thingy...

Dude, what pipes are you PVC welding?? I just hand tightened everything and Huzzah !!

Muz

Your skimmer is insump.
Copperband's skimmer is external so he had some glueing to do!:)

OH ! ok cool.

I have two of the Octo DNW150's and am very happy with them. Shout if you need any info, but they are easy to setup. As previously mentioned check the washer that goes on the inlet to the pump. It can sometimes block the air inlet.

Instead of glueing the pipes, just use thread tape on the joints just incase oneday you wana sell the skimmer or change the plumbing.

LOL ;)

A bit late now

Hey guys, just got my new octopus skimmer running last night, worked until 01:30 this morning but worth it. The only thing is there's no way I could fit this monster under my cabinet so its standing next to it. What an awesome skimmer !!

Cool man,
Which model you get?

Ok boys and girls the skimmer is in, don't ask about the amount of salt water i swallowed trying to get the failsafe syphon to work. Hehehe the failsafe was so safe it didn't want to syphon..imagine that.

Ok I have one tiny issue with my skimmer, the recirc pump is VERY noisy, its funny now but my wife is back from the UK this weekend and I doubt she's going to appreciate the noise. When I restrict airflow to the pump the noise goes away but thats obviously counter productive as we want as much air into the skimmer as possible.

PLZ HELP!!!

Is it a sucking noise of air or is it a rattling noise?

Copper, you won't believe me but I am having exactly the same issue with my skimmer pump. Except mine is the fee pump. Also, I can understand mine as it's a cheapo.

Yeah, like the impeller is hitting the casing side.

I also figured out that when airflow is restricted the noise become less and eventually dissapear. Not sure why though.

My tank is in pieces again but when it is up and running I will give my pump a good listen and let you know as well, I did have a noise but I thought it was from the return pump vibrating against the glass.

Aspirating skimmer pumps will make a noise, it's the air being drawn into the impellor chamber that makes the noise.
Have you fitted the silencer ?
