Hey Guys!!
This was a private property we stayed at, owned by a friend of mine. Its across the bay of pemba.The whole reef is quite shallow it varies between 1m-4m progressing deeper to the drop off which falls off to about 60m.the visibility ranges from 25m to about 40m
And the water temp is 29deg.No use in scuba diving as you see everything on snorkel that’s what I did.
The Camera I used is the Canon powershot A650 IS with housing.
With regards to pemba being the perfect holiday destination - I will not go if I cant stay on the private property I stayed at.Pemba beach hotel looks nice and all on advertisements but one street behind that and its 10 times worse than Soweto.
the place Is extremely expensive for a third world country,R30 a coke,R7.50 a bog roll(ha-ha),R200 a T-bone steak,R50 a chicken,R12 a beer(2 M)....and its a mission to get quality veggies heck its a mission to do anything there seeing that its 45deg and humid.

These days,Soweto is not so bad........but hec those prices are steep hey.I suppose its not so bad if you just go for a couple of days though,you can only eat and drink so much....Are the private properties rented out at all?

I had the pleasure of driving to Pemba from Jhb and back Dec 2002, a 7000 Km round trip.
We stayed at a place called Russell's camp for around R 30.00 a nite, right on the beach.
Most awesome trip Ive ever been on even though I got malaria. Nacala about 400Km south of Pemba is even better. Not tourist orientated like Pemba and a lot more on the wild side.
The diving in Mozambique away from the tourist traps around Inhambane, Vilancoulos and Pomeme is really good - very few die hard travelers get to these far off places.

That is cheap wonder if they still exist.I think the change in prices hapened when the gov. changed the metical from millions to thousands and I went in peak season. thank goodness we didnt have to pay for accomadation seeing that its a friends place. but yeah still one off my best trips ever. Thinking off going camping in raja ampat that would rock!!!

BTW: Renier - VERY interesting to see acropora corals - LOOKING BROWN AT SUCH SHALLOW DEPTH...... Only the growth points are slightly colored.......
