Here's my new Nano RO unit given to me by Marco (The Waterboy) Many thanks mate!

I got a stupid question.
With that hamster water bottle. Obviously the tip hangs inside the water. As water level drop, air enter bubble goes up and a bit of water are released to correct the water level.

Now the question. Will the water in display not dilute and mix with the water in the water bottle? I mean osmosis or whatever you call it will happen and salt concentrate will migrate to the lower levels until all salt levels are equal. Same concept for a DSB where lower concentrations and higher concentration will eventually balance out. How else do the nitrate get to the bottom of the DSB?

It will obviously not happen in an hour, more a day or two. So you would get the effect that the water salanity in display drops, and as the water bottle gets empty, the salanity would again slowly rise. But maybe not an issue, as the water in downpipe goes out first, maybe too fast for stuff to migrate upward.

Maybe, as an answer, test the water bottle TDS when it reaches a quarter, and let me know if the water is still pure RO, or did its TDS increased slowly.

Sorry for lack of updates, been super busy. Picked up a yellow clown goby. He's settling in still. Hopefully he eats as i've heard they can be picky eaters

Can't believe how easy it is to maintain this little tank.

Not a stupid question at all! I researched this before going this route as I also through due to the concentration difference the water would end up mixing - this does not happen! :)

Here's some pics from an experiment a reefer over at nano-reef.com did to prove how the water doesn't mix

Saltwater with pink dye, waterbottle ATO in place. If the saltwater mixed with the freshwater then you should see pink dye in the water bottle with time.

As you can see there is NO pink colouration in the water bottle, thus clear that diffusion from salt water in the bowl to fresh water in the bottle is not an issue with this water top-off system :)

Just fixing your statement. Forgot a crucial word...:)

So obviously the water evaporation rate is faster that the water concentrate spreading or mixing, thereby the flow out of top up bottle is faster that the salt spreading upwards. A mystery solved. I doubt if this will work on thick pipes though.

Thanks.
BTW, the little yellow goby looks really nice.

My little Gobiodon okinawae is still quite shy. Hid away most of the day. Did see him out a little bit and he likes to hide within the macroalgae. Hasn't fed yet but it's only been 2 days. I bought New Life Spectrum - small fish formula. Hopefully he'll take to that (it's very small granules) - the zoo's and brittle stars definitely like it ;)

Cool link

I really want a Green Clown Goby have been looking for them for a few months now but they have been scarce, and I have already stocked my nano... will have to wait

Please update with pics as soon as the goby is out and about

Thanks
Brandon

Damn matt....your the nano king sofar!
