Warm greetings to all

Hi there, welcome to MASA. Some great reading for you below in my signature - enjoy ;)

welcome to masa, great to have you join.

do you have a tank already or are you looking at starting out fresh and nw?

Hi Crispin
I already have a 4ft FOWLR setup. Its been running for 6months now and no hickups, now I'm thinking to slowly add some corals like zoas to start off with, I'm willing to pay for some frags if the price is right

Maybe if someone knows someone that want to mahe a few bucks. I'm open to suggestions

Hi CrazyTang, and welcome to MASA

No one is allowed to help unless you post some pics!:)
You cannot drop something like this on us and not share the details???

Start uploading!

I see that you have a 4ft FOWLR. Care to share more details?

FOWLR setups can be great, but regretably often the fish mix in them isnt the best for a reef tank later. either aggressive fish that eat others or fish that love corals....but why not list the inhabitants you ahve and lets see if we can help with some suggestions:)

and id love some pics of the system :)

Hi Crispin

I only have a yellow tang and a koran angelfish. Not much but its ok for now until i can make up my mind what other fish i want. I dont want them to nip at my corals that i want to get. But ive heard of Yellow tangs going after polyps like its nobodys business and this makes me a bit uneasy

Would it have been better to build my reef first and then only after that is done introduce my fish?

well i personally build a reef from the base up, as in from letting the tiny's like pods and micro wporms establish first, then a clean up crew like hermits, snails maybe a few shrimps etc and then a few soft corals and then i start adding fish. But thats just the way I do it, having fish in there is no problem you can add corals and things fine.

but that yellow tang is an algae eater (good thing) he is not your worry with regards coral nipping, its the Koran angel. Its of paramount importance (that means its like vry important, did i say how important it it?) to research your fish first. After a while you get to know them well, what they eat, where they swim, how they swim, whom likes whom and whome will kill another, which get big and ourgriow a tank, which are messy feeders, who will eat your corals and who wsill sna ck on your shrimp. Between all that yoiu still find some awesum fish, you just have to know which will suit your tank.

@belinda do you have some links CT can study on appropriate fish he might look at?

that koran will not im afraid, and now that you have ONE yellow tang in there he will have a territory and thus adding other yellows isnt a good idea, indeed you will have to see which other tangs you could add.

but i am running ahead a little, lets rather help you build up your base of clean up crew and some soft corals to start with, its the easist way to go:)

Ok then

What do i do with the Koran angel then? He`s like 5 inches and eats like freak of nature. Somtimes he terorises the Tang, but the Tang doesnt hold back.

I dont want to buy some Coral for R500 and then when i wake up in the morning im left with a rock where the coral used to be

Welcome to the forum
Thnx for the welcome Butcherman
So by the way,,,, Thankyou all for the warm welcome to MASA

Yes i have. there is alot more for them to swim around and under. Some nice hiding spots aswell.

I think they quite happy. i hope so. they look quite comfortable.

Well, since the cellphone pic's did not come out too badly, snap some new ones tonight to upload.

Waiting in anticipation......

Remember to also take pics of your engine room. The DIY guys like those pic's too.;)
