Falcon's Magnifica Cube.

Michael its great to have you here, after looking at your tank's pictures i think maybe i should hire you -your skills will come in handy with layout and photography bud!;)

thanks keegan and alias.

Annoying,Actually the final look for the tank (high stand/black silicone/open top/blueish lighting) was inspired by a previous tank of ziyaadb.

When I saw it i knew that is the look I wanted for my cube so thanks ziyaad;)

fantasic!

work faster :)

work faster :)

lol how i wish i could!

Water tested it and johan came to reseal the one tank connector as it had the slightest of leaks like 25ml in 24hours just at the threads on the outside but he sorted it out now so its completely water tight, and filled up.

Waiting for the overflow comb Ernst is getting made up for me,so i'll silicone that in place and will probably fill salt in by the weekend.Hoping to do the rock work on the weekend pending if I can get the pieces i'm looking for by then, trying to get a nice open scape with a slight zen feel but not too unnatural either....should take some time to get it close to what i'm aiming for.

Then I know i can fast stock with bacteria etc but still want to take my time as theres no rush I have two other tanks to keep me busy for now:p,I'll let it cycle for at least three weeks with adding bacteria. In that time I'll install the skimmer and lighting so hopefully start stocking in another month, cabinet also to be installed then, haven't made up my mind about the finish on it either.

Oh yes and the overflow seems to be a bit loud(to my wife atleast ;)) for my silent flat because of the extra bend and water falling the height that the tank is,so we working on a quieter solution in the week.

Falcon

If you have a solution for that, please let me know.
I installed a ball valve, which helped to a certain extend, but caused some other problem relating to throttling the flow.

I am in the process of redoing my flows, so any ideas would be welcomed.

Ciao!

Niel

I have a few ideas lol not sure if any are solutions though,I will let you know which works out most effective later this week.heres the options:

1.Put a tee inside the overflow box with one end facing up,this will allow the water to go down through the side and air gets pulled from the top, this should ease the water flow as the air has a clear path on one side and water a clear path on the other(like a theme park slide, rather than a drain) and this should lesson the air lock sounds coming out of it.
A vent valve or a simple hole with airline tube in a stop-end MAY be fitted on the top of the tee if it is still noisy but i somehow don't think this will be needed.

2.If this doesn't quieten it down enough then i would suspect the extra elbow as another possible noise source so a p-trap type water lock will be created to deaden or absorb some of the sound. The problem with this is that i would have to possibly support the pipe so that the extra weight of the water lock does not put too much strain on the tank connector.

3.If after that i find that the actual water falling from the top of the tank in the overflow to the tank connector is the problem then i will simply raise the height of the tee piece in the overflow so that the water level in the entire overflow is higher resulting in less distance for the water to flow in the open chamber. But this I also dont suspect is a huge cause of the noise.

and then.....lol die visdam doesnt have the salt i use in stock, the supplier is out....so maybe i'll just have to change brands.Ernst is organising something this week so i'll probably grab that.

Also very busy at work lately so ya hardly anytime at night to do much on the tank, will hopefully get some progress from next week as work load at work should get easier next week.

Ok so just a quick update on where we sitting right now,

I went for the Seachem salt from die visdam at a great price much cheaper than other shops quoted me!40% cheaper than the other quote i got!

Then the skimmer has arrived,I decided to go for the OCTX-200 and see what the hype on the Sicce PSK2500 pump is all about.....Tested it out last week and I can say I'm glad it skims very nicely will be perfect for what i have planned in this tank, maybe a bit overkill if the tank isnt over stocked though.

Also I decided not to cut any corners and went for maximum with the lighting,400w mh it will be with a venture euro blue 400w globe which is just great in my past experience with them, gives a colour unlike other mh, its like a 15000k with a slight bit of figi purple in it,already installed one in my 680lt reef last week with some t5's and its awesome.

Here i decided that during night hours its too bright to watch TV next to the tank so Im going for a full electronic ballast system with built in dimming and timing for the dimming as well so that it will dim automatically in the evening but have full power during the afternoon. Also its much quieter(actually dead silent) and much more energy efficient than the standard magnetic mh that I fitted over my 680lt reef. The other advantage is that this unit can be mounted up to 30 meters away if i have heat issues in summer I can place it away from the tank completely.

I'll post more details once its here,I haven't got a reflector yet.Should make up my mind on that during this week.

I've built up some live rock structure using carbon fibre rods, tried to go with a minimalist look which should help with dead spots for detritus settlement also.

Just need maybe one more piece of rock for it to be complete(i'm thinking a flat rock at the very top.I'll post some pictures just now...let me know what you guys think.

Waiting for the pics :)

This is the part that they say we need to be patient as reefers...... but do we have to also be patient when its pics? :p

ya its like training for reefkeeping, practice waiting enough and you'll get good at it.:p

lol will try later tonight, did not have my laptop on me last night to transfer pics.

take pics of the plumbing Ahmed.. anything :whistling:

:whistling: its time for some, updates.... pic's....

ok now i feel bad....the okes are getting desperate so i better do something quick

Unfortunately progress has been very slow,I'm not living at my flat right now as my wife and I have a new"frag" so she is recovering at her mothers house in MP and hence I'm at my folks house coz I'm too lazy to make my own breakfast:p.What this means is progress is almost at a half for the last three weeks.

So its going to be a very small update but i'll post some pics of the scaping later....very minimalistic and without anemones/corals it looks odd but it will look balanced in a few months time.

Pics before lunch guys;)
