Breeding information about Banggai Cardinals

Hi. He stopped eating on the 12th of October. He is quite big and his mouth is almost double . Pls help, I would really like to save if not all some of the babies

What is your water temperature? Depending on your temperature, he will release them any day, latest by Saturday.
Do you have brine shrimp eggs to hatch?
Did you ever hatch brine shrimps?
Do you have selcon or something similar to enrich the brine shrimp?

Just saw that you've raised some tomatoes already. Go through this thread, especially the part what not to do. Then you should be able to save all of them.

Hi my water temp is set at 26 but it does go up to 27 and then the chiller kicks in. I don't have any selcon but will nannochloropsis or isochrysis work.

Yes it will, but only a combination of both algaes. Otherwise you lack in DHA when feeding nannochloropsis only.

But what a job for banggais, enriching with algae. To much hassle. But I also don't even now what enrichment product is available and suitable.

Hi. Went to clean my glass and found 1 baby swimming around. The male still has the rest in his mouth. Is this normal. I switched everything off now. Maybe tonight is the night

Yep, sometimes one very curious, little bugger escapes before the time. I reckon he will release the rest tonight. Set up a moonlight or some small light in one corner. The babies will swim to the light. Then you can move the dad or separate them with something. Sometimes the dad is so flippin hungry, he just eats his offspring.

Thanks. My problem is that I cannot remove the dad. This is all happening in my main tank(2mx700x700). Got other fish in there as well. I will be checking on them from time to time. Put all my lights off hoping that the other fish go to sleep. Got the whole room as dark as possible. Will check using a torch

Oh okay. Then you have to catch the babies. Hope you got breakfast for them ready tomorrow morning. ;)

Yes sir. Got the brine shrimp going. I'm going to feed the brine shrimp with some rotifers

Feeding brine with rotifers? Ain't gonna work. Brine shrimp are filter feeders. And you should feed the first few days freshly hatched brines as they have still their yolk sack. The digestive system of the banggai babies has to kich in before they can digest the harder enriched brines.

Problem having them in the display tank is that other fish will eat them. Mine hatched twice during the past year and all the babies were eaten by the other fish. Not that I mind though, as I do not want more than what I have already
