Never fool yourself, thinking a breeding pair makes a system healthy.
Banggais, clowns and damsels are not fuzzy.
If mandarins and/or angels spawning, then your system is healthy.
I got a pair damsels in my growout system, which spawns on a weekly basis.
My growout system is far from healthy.
60mg/l nitrate, only room light and a flower pot in the tank.
Very good food and the damsels are happy.

Agree, my comment was more directed at the fact that the juvenile had survived and grown in that environment, not the fact that the adult pair was spawning.

Ahh, in this case, I have to agree in total.
 
My Bangai's spawned again so early saturday morning I decided to quickly check the tank, before lights on, if the male has let the little ones go yet. I noticed his mouth wasn't bloated anymore so I knew he must have let them go that night. So the search began. I found one next to my overflow box at the bottom of the tank, one INSIDE the overflow box gooing a backpaddle so not to be sucked down the pipe and one in the DSB chamber. So 3 in total.

This is a 5ml spoon with one of them in. They are SO small but well developed.

I'm busy building a small quarantine/breeding tank so that I can move the male there and hopefully find/recover more little ones the next time.
 
No problem. I have given these 3 to Frans since I don't have a propper facility to hatch brine, but as soon as I have things going and it works I'll let you know.

I'm most definitely not going into breeding! I don't have the time and I'd rather leave it to the professionals(LuckyFish and Frans). But if I can help get some captive bred Bangai's out then I'm happy. No sense in letting them spawn for nothing.
 
Thats is soo cute, have you had a look around for any more babies?

They release usually between 20 and 30 at the time, depending on the broodstock nutrition and size of the adults.
Maybe you should have a look again, there should be more somewhere.
 
I looked around the tank and sump the whole weekend but I couldn't see any more. That's why I want to build the quarantine/breeding tank so I can move the male there and have a better chance at getting more little ones out alive. This time his mouth was really full so i'm sure he must have had a whole bunch of them in there.
 
This is so awesome!!! :-D I would love to be in line for some of these babies! They are my favourite fish!! Congratulations on your success! This is fantastic! For every fish you breed - you offset one that wouldve been taken from the wild! This makes me happpyyy!!! :-D

Thanks Dane, me 2. LuckyFish and some of the other guys are doing a great job at getting tank bred LS out there. It's a drop in the ocean, but it's a drop nonetheless.
 
I read this diary article a guy kept on his bangais when they spawned. The interesting part I found was where he makes a fake urchin out of toothpicks and putty for the little ones to hide in. Interesting idea. I suppose a pot or some LR would do as well.

A pot won't work as well, live urchins or artficial are better, often on the first few breeding attempts the numbers of fry are fewer (such as three to ten), after which larger broods can be expected.Try to give the male a break now and then to fatten it up and lengthen its life.

I need to finish my quarantine/breeding tank ASAP so I can move him there. The poor guy needs a rest.
