So 60% of kempton park has been with out power now for 2 days.

I have 2 tanks one is a seahorse and the other is a 500l sps/lps mixed reef.

So what has been my plan of action.

1st piece of equipment for any reefer should be a Battery operated air pump. This pump runs of 2 D size cells. this pump is powerful and lasts an extremely long time on the batteries.

2nd i have the tunze safety connectors on the 500l thanks return pump and a 6105, this allows me to run the pumps off my 105aH deep cycle battery.

3rd i have a 5.5 kva generator i run this a few hours at a time not only to warm the tanks and provide light but also to cool my fridges.

With any luck the power might be on later today.

for once i'm glad i live in Swaziland.. we do get power cuts here but not like that

Stuck with the same problem, my safety connecter hasn't arrived they were out of stock. So i'm running air pumps in my main tank and quarantine tank, they are covered in blankets and im floating 2l bottles of water that i boiled on gas in the tank to try keep the temp up.

My temp stays above 19, and everything seems too be ok in the tanks.

I really hope the lights will come on soon though.

wow dude and i thought we had it bad here.. and well played for being able to over come such a big
obstacle and you were prepared for it

you were prepared for it

Yes and I hope others will think about how they will prepare.

Remember winter is coming, and power outages will come along. you dont need all the equipment i got but still have a plan of action. Know what your gonna do. test your equipment that you do have.

how is your tank doing did the power come back as they had stated

Nope power still off, resorted to getting a generator and tank at least now running and warming up. Will let it run until temp up and then wrap it in blankets again for the night. Luckily everything still alive.

Really hope the power comes on soon

What is the most Important piece of equipment need during one of these long power outages .

Some of us cant afford to go out and buy a generator so would it just be a battery powered air pump.

How long will the life is the sump last without oxygen im sure it would be substancialy longer than the display tank and

How long would you be able to go with just an air pump and say stiring up the water a little bit every now and then
