there is no need, but since its aerobic filtration it wont hurt

Somebody mentioned it me me a few months back but I had never heard of adding an airstone under the filtration until I read this post, so was just wondering. Is it worth doing?

in a way it will help flow, aerate the water and keep sediment settling on the media
