The Skimz skimmer clan

Yip, got the impeller about 3 weeks ago. It actually landed within 5 days of ordering it but with the postal worker strike I never got the notification. Installed it and its back to its former glory, a little better in fact :)

Pump still locks when I turn it off but if I blow into the air intake it normally gets it going again, that wasn't the case with the old impeller. So i'm happy, and it ended up costing me R230 for the impeller incl shipping and customs.

I must say, I had a really pleasant experience dealing with Skimz direct (even Exoctics in fact), I found both companies to be nothing but very helpful so kudo's to both of them :)

happy to hear and glad its back in running order, did you not fit an alternitive pump?

Just thought i will add my comments aswell. Managed to get an impeller from skimz and a pump from nathan. So far it works well. Finally managed to get my skimmer started after so many months

stoked for you buck... i know the horrible feeling of being stranded... glad your skimmer is working again.

I think there was just a big misunderstanding with the whole Exotic/TSR ownership of warranty responsorbilities... but it seems that we now have clear direction of what route to go...

Yeah it was all rather pleasant, the stuff up, as it is always ,was with the Post Office. I had a Sicce Suprema saving my ass while the Eden was out of action but I decided to stick with the Eden. Its a good quiet pump that was let down by a badly designed impeller. So it was no fault of Eden, just school fees I guess when buying a relatively new and untested product. I'm happy with it though, its a great skimmer :)

Hey guys.

Got my 180 today. A couple of hours and it s working great already.

Do I want small finer bubbles or bigger ones?

Thanks

I was strugling with nitrates. 20 ppm

My water was also full of fine particles. Never polished. 600 liters net water volume.

I was running a ts2 and a ts1 in my tank. Got nice dark skimmate.

However I strugled with detrites settling in my sump.

I was informed that it is obviously my skimmers that is nit doing a great job.

I decided to upgrade my skimmer to lwer nitrates and to get the water a bit more polished.

I decided to o with the skimz sk 181. Got it from exotic aquariums.

Did I make the right choice in terms of size? Will it be enough compared to what I had?

Skimz sk181 with es2000 pump rated for 200 to 1200 liters.

Thanks

Hi Ivyalt

I'm sure you will be pleasantly surprised by the performance of the new model SK181!:1:
Let the skimmer run a few days to "run in" and the fine tune the water flow and air volume, tuning a skimmer takes a little concentration and a lot of patience, but once tuned, lock the nut on the gate valve and watch the skimmer perform!

Let me know if there's anything we can help with!

Steve

All seems 100% with the new improved replacement impellor supplied by skimz earlier this year:

I'm really happy with my Skimz SM202, it's skimming like a beast and had no problems with it so far:thumbup:. Liking skimz products so much that I'm going to order the skimz kalk stirrer as well for my future build. Going to do the neck cleaner mod on the skimmer as well so watch this space;)

Glad to hear that, I only read your thread after I bought my skimmer.:)

so should i go for a kimz 181 or not for my new 800L 6ft tank. i have read all the posts but now scared on what step to take.

The skims sk181 is rated for a 1200liter tAnk there was problems with the older impellers but skims has upgraded the impellers and they work now with no issues at all if you worried about the size of the skimmer you can even go for one bigger and get the skims sk201 which if memory serves will do from 800-2000liter aquarium

Thanks. Read all the issues regarding the impeller but I see a few saying things are better now. Decisions decisions I guess!!!!!!

yeah alot of water under this bridge, there has been a dramatic improvement in support and product delivered worldwide in the subsequent batches since the faulty impellor issue...

on the skimmer itself, i personally chose to go with an external version after having setting issues with the SK181, i just found it easier to regulate the water through it and i had no issues of it starting up after a power failure.. i think this problem has been sorted on the internal models now.. perhaps some of the owners of the internal models could comment on this.

I have had no problems with the water flow, it took me a few days to fine tune both the main valve and the air valve, and since then all has been good. I clean my cup every third day and after switching the skimmer back on, it works excellently!
