Tank Size

CLS I can't help you with as I've never used one, but for a return pump I would recommend a RIO Hyperflow pump, they're small, quiet and have a very uniqe impellor design.

Thanks Viper and what lts/hr would one recommend. Yes Ive just been reading about CLS and dont know the advantage for CLS hoping to hear from someone who has one. Im busy desiging one now on sketch up just taking some time, Just know that there will be more chaotic flow in the display and that power heads tend to fail or short circiut after a while giving one a shock when adjusting.[article on the net] how true this is I cant comment maybe someone can.

CLS are very beneficial in terms of water flow in your tank.

Maybe something in the region of 4000lph would be ok for a return pump, it would depend on how high it has to pump and also how many bends will be in the plumbing.

Hi Bruce - could you perhaps do a Sketchup pic of WHERE you want to put the CLS outputs?
And have you thought of the CLS input? A CLS system means it sucks water from INSIDE the tank, and pushes this water back INTO the tank via multiple outlets...
I have one - but have not perfected mine yet...

You can have an "add-on" CLS (like mine - piping OVER the top of the tank), or a "built-in" CLS - where the tank is actually drilled to accommodate the CLS inlets/outlets...

Also - the pump has to be able to run as an "external pump" (not one that HAVE to be used IN water....)

Thanks all Ill get a sketch up soon, Ive encountered another problem as I not very familiar with all these gadgets.
On the skimmer I bought I need to know how it works plumbing wise. Water in fed into the skimmer chamber then the pump pumps it into the skimmer about 1/4 way up from the bottom. There is pipe wich is plumbed to the outside of the skimmer with a vertical rise, there is a adjustable pipe over this pipe wich can be lifted or dropped. Now is there a restriction to this height that one must adjust as there is also 3 circular sponge type items which fit over this [what are they there for], and is elbow fixed on the top this pipe to drop over onto the DSB. Is this correct or have I got the cat by the b...s

I think it sounds right Bruce, have a look at this image, you need to move the black tube up and down until your water level sits roughly where the blue line is, that is where mine is set and I get a full cup of dark skimmate every 3 days.

What concerns me is that you say "Water in fed into the skimmer chamber then the pump pumps it into the skimmer about 1/4 way up from the bottom."

Are you saying the skimmer is only 1/4 full of water?

Okay Project Sump complete:slayer: , next project display tank stand, which will be a brick and solid cement foundation, Im not looking forward to this never mind the wife:whistling: . Im going to cut into the main floor of the lounge and cast a solid plinth with re-inforcing to brick on, so just imagine all the mess anyway this is so far planned for the long weekend. which has so kindly been granted to us.:1:

hey bruce can you maybe take a photo from the top down of your sump, that looks like a lekker mean sump dude!

towards the top is where most of have it.dont forget to drill the fail safe siphon ;)
Im going to have a overflow at the back with 2 durso and a siphon just above the durso height for the siphon back. So the return should be okay if its in the middle of the water heigh of display. If I do have it place it here does one put a net or something in font to prevent all kreeping in or what.

There should not be ANYTHING kreeping in, as you SHOULD have water coming out of it with a HUGE blast ;-)

And the return should be OK at any level of the tank (top, midway, bottom) - just depends on what you want to do with the waterflow coming out of it!

this is very cool bruce, nice big space for dsb, I'm just wondering what the two chambers is for after the skimmer chamber.

Evening All
Thanks Jacques, Im also extremely happy for the finished sump, always good to sit back and have a ice cold frosty on a job well done by ones self. Now just need to save for the display and the concrete/brick stand[this part Im dreding and so is the wife as I need to chop and cut the lounge floor]
lanzo
The two chambers, yes good question my intentions was or will be to place maybe heaters or what ever pops up, then I have a space for these type of items, possibly should have placed after the DSB but a bit late now, but so one learns
