Tank Size

Salifert are not readily available in our country. My next best bets would be Seachem or Tropic Marin.

  1. Skimmer
  2. Mh lights
  3. Mh Lights (depending on size)
  4. T5 lights
  5. Sump light
  6. Return pump
  7. powerhead
  8. powerhead
  9. powerhead
  10. powerhead
  11. Heater
  12. Heater
  13. Ozone
  14. UV
  15. Fans
  16. Fans
  17. Or Chiller
  18. Controller
  19. Controller
  20. Spare
  21. Spare
  22. Spare

And maybe add a moonlight and an auto top-off.

Once again helprequired from the pros, Im interested in fiting a closed loop system, but Im totally lost. Ive read about random flow, chaotic flow, alternating flow and laminar flow. How is this achieve with aclosed loop system and what is the better flow within the tank. Ive also read that power heads arent the best around as there life span is short is this true as well as one needs a good earthing for them otherwise there could be shocking exprience sooner or later. If I do go for a closed loop system what movement would I have in the tank and woul I have to add power heads, wave maker etc.

Hi Bruce,

Either methodaology is usually not used exclusively. Mostly when a CLS is employed, there are some powerheads as well. Depending on how comprehensive you want your CLS.

A lot of that will also depend on your aquascaping. I would have the CLS flow over the face of my scaping from two or more directions and then have two powerheads point at eachother from either end of the tank in addition to the CLS.

If you want to take it one step further you can add a second CLS that is connected to a SQWD for alternating flow. That would mix things up nicely.

A SCWD is a device that alternates the flow between two outlets, so basically, water enters this device and then leaves through 2 outlets, the SCWD automatically switches between the 2 outlets allowing flow from one outlet and then the other.

Hi Kanga
Good to hear from you again, thanks for the link:thumbup: Just as I read and educate Im staring to get a little confused:p CLS, powerheads, wavemakers, laminar flow, surge chaotic etc.etc. Dont know what route to follow. My sump is coming along all internal glass is now fixed just letting dry for a week then Ill fix the side panes.Be in bed for the past two days with a dose of flue and gland fever but okay gives me time to read and surf.

Need some help, I need to buy a test kit what do you suggets for now.
Tropic marine is very very nice tests kits, i had red sea they are shit and pharmaceutical is also shit.
if you want to test for phos you need to buy the deltec test kit, it measures lower than any other test kit that i have ever seen.
I hope this helps, good luck on the CLS!:)

Okay Ive bought my first item a RO Unit, now what do you guys do, fit it to a wall and fill containers or to the plumbing of the tank?:whistling:

Fit it to the wall. If outside get a container for it. like a electrical box, or the sun will kill your resin.

Plumbing it in to your water supply and the tank is the ultimate but loads of PTand not always the easiest.

I would NOT plumb my R/o directly into my tank, in the event that the ATU gets stuck and keeps on pumping it would just carry on in the event of it being plumbed in

R/O in a container would run empty and still be fine

Kanga it must be possible with water level sensor and things. I have seen water purification being plumbed into the water supply, ain't it the same principal ?

Oh sure its very possble, you have alarms, sms's etc. All I am saying for the sake of carrying one 40L drum a week, you have the assurance that whether you are 1000km away or asleep, the worst that will happen is the RO drum running empty. Whats the point the alarm goes off and you with Vipers girl 800km away?

Just being safe:D:D

Im sure it can be done but maybe not worth all the PT. Will look into it, but would one not need a salt mixer as well for top up if so then space for becomes a problem for me.
