glad you had the same great experience i had, and still have
i have all the time in the world to view my tank and only do RO topups
Normal Cubes - remove NO3 and PO4 in the assimilation of nutrients
Titanium remove NO3 without using any PO4 at all...
if you need large PO4 removal, use a Orca GFH, then add cubes.. but thats for another thread

@dallasg, Thanks for verifying that... i was wondering what the phosphate absorption defirences is between the two products.
Just a quick question, how long have you had your biocubes in your tank & do you still have a 0 reading for nitrates?

So just to make a quick assumption... It is possible to control the amount of nitrates in a system by removing some of the bio-cubes until the absorption & addition of nitrates cancels each other out?
yes it is, by using the normal cubes you can nutrient fix using the PO4 limitation of NO3 removal..i will make an in depth post about it

They are biological in action, remove NO3 and PO4, if you mean trace elements, that is not true, corals and your life stock will use trace elements for growth and metabolic processes. These can be supplimented by water changes and/ trace element dosing.
The cubes, remove nitrates and phosphates very well, which will lead to a low nutrient system, which might make some softies and lps unhappy.

They will definitely strip the water of nitrates! Thats for sure!
But you can also control the amount of nutrient uptake by removing some of the cubes until a nutrient balance is achieved which makes it a very flexible product!
So if you want to keep soft & lps corals, you can add the recommended amount & when it reaches your desired nutrient levels, remove some cubes & wait a week... If it still drops, remove some more!!!

& as for trace elements... Doesnt even touch it as it is only a food source for bacteria & not a chemical absorber like activated carbon...
In fact, they do remove trace elements, in trace quantities, LOL. Whether you use a dsb, a denitrator or cubes or pellets, they will remove trace elements as part of their metabolic processes.

Then the nitra-guard will be the perfect product for you...
With that Phosphate count, you can even use the normal nitra-guard. Will also reduce your nitrates to undetectable...

I am currently using chemi pue elite to control phos. Needs replacement in a few weeks time so I am hoping to use titanium alone and not in combo with any other phos remover. Hope I have got it right!
Also chemi runs in a canister filter and I would like to use bomb method with the nitraguard and eliminate the cannister from the sump.

@dickw, the nitra-guard is a nitrate removal product. It does however remove some phosphates, & i have found that if you dont overfeed, it will keep your phosphates undetectable, but its better to add some gfo every once in a while to help lower yousmr phosphates...
Hope this helps. I use very little gfo & only replace it once every 4 months now!

Nope don't use titanium especially if you going to need po4 removal,rather just use the normal ones,they will work a lot better in your situation with the titanium you will find your PO4 going higher and NO3 going lower.Remember the normal ones use NO3 MUCH MUCH faster than PO4 so even though you might think you have low po4 now you don't really have low po4 relative to the redfield ratio.
