My very first marine tank

noted. i will move the pin cushion tonight.

i picked the branch thing up on the beach at kalk bay over the weekend. it's a little reminder of a great weekend. might look better if i move it to the back of the tank. will play around.

if i build a 20cm or 30cm spacer that fits between the top of the tank and the hood, will this be good enough to fit 150w mh?

will the heat melt the hood? not sure if anyone has ever tried this...

With that kind of space it can be done, but you need to have loads of ventilation and probably fans

hi all,

i have finally managed to get my mh light up and running on my tank. it now has 150w 14k mh as well as the original pc lights that are standard on the buyo. had to diy a spacer between the tank and the hood to fit the mh in.

looks fantastic. i will post a pic soon.

IMHO I think u shud get a hang on skimmer, the reason I say this is 'cos I've spent a good few weeks now on forums & chatting to a few Marine Enthusiasts, not to forget the LFS's. Everybody told me the same thing, and that is that the standard skimmer is rubbish! The guy I got my tank from actually owned a small pet store down in Natal sumwer & i was lucky enough to negotiate with him to throw it into the deal! I've got a RedSea Prism, not the best but more than decent for the BOYU.

Either way, like I said, it's jus my opinion, & I'm knew to this...
Oh, & pls lemme know if my opinion is rite/wrong, I can only learn...

i completely agree with you on the skimmer. i have been trying to figure out for a few weeks now if i want to go with the hob skimmer, ext skimmer or somehow get a sump with a skimmer.
