My Old 4ft Reef Attempt Upgrade

Small update, Back glass panel was drilled. New front panel was ordered and I also picked up the 21mm shutterply today for the stand tops. Next step will be to paint the wood and fix it to the stand. Also have to order the glass for the remote refugium and the baffles for the new sump.
 
Ok so I have cut the bottom shutterply panel.

Now I just need to prime the timber and then paint it with a plascon velvaglo.

I also went to builders and found these nice plugs to cover the holes in the stand for the galvanizing.

Still waiting for the front panel of glass but here are the rest with the rear panel drilled.

Update Time

Ok so the previous glass I ordered was scratched. Then I ordered a new front panel, This was also scratched. Took it back today, and will receive the new front panel tomorrow. Hope this one is in a better condition.

The shutterply tops for the stand was primed and painted and I fixed them to the stand, Came out pretty nice.

I started experimenting with sugar dosing for the last week.
I added 1/8 of a teaspoon of sugar to my holding system everyday.

My Nitrates was at 50.
A week later and it has dropped to about 30 and my corals or opening alot more.

Will definitely continue the experiment.

On another note, I went and bought polystyrene for the tank support. My initial idea was to use high density foam but that is just way to expensive, so instead I went and got 40mm thick polystyrene boards and will cut them to size with a hot blade to get that smooth finish.
 
OK so I received the new front panel today. Guess what!!!!, its also scratched.
I have now basically given up on this place. Got some quotes today from other places and looks good. Will go order the new panel tomorrow.
 
Jeez dude sorry to hear, some guys just don't care for customer service. They think we are dependant on them but it is actually the other way round. Well I hope you come right with the glass.

Just for 2 of them, But its fine. 1 ill use for the tank bracing and the other ill use for sump baffles and the remote fuge. I was just 2 fed up to argue with them so I just took the panel and left.
 
It's such a pity that in today's world, the consumer is 90% of the time on the losing end of bad service. and the story is always the same "it was too much hassle to fight with them"
 
Yes also had a similar experience, most glazers don't clean their cutting beds so the small shards scratch as they move the panel around. Not good when on a schedule.
 
So today I went to another glass place, and ordered the new front panel. Was a little bit more expensive but I told them to be very carefull to not scratch it. I also got the bottom panel for the remote refugium cut out of leftover 10mm glass from the old cracked tank.

Tonight I will attempt cutting the polystyrene with a hot knife. wish me luck.

Small update. Progress is really slow and its starting to get to me being without a tank so long.

Anyway the only way is to move forward. I did cut the polystyrene finally. The hot knife idea was terrible. didnt work at all so I just went the old fashion way and cut it with a carpet knife. It came out alot better than expected.

Still waiting on the glass, Hopefully Ill receive it this week.

Next step will be to buy the remainder of the glass clamps and alot of silicone. I do have a contact for Den Braven black aqua but it all will depend on the persons stock and it is really expensive due to it not being sold anywhere in this useless PE.

So I went to go fetch the new front panel today from the new place. And yes it was also scratched, Luckily they agreed to replace it for me.

Now im wondering, what is the standard to expect. Should we just be happy with scratched glass.
