Nice build @Lawrence 6, i love cube nano tanks!
Just one question, how do you break the syphon on the return pipes when the power goes out?
Is your sump big enough to handle all the water if the power goes out?

Your returns look nice, but they seems a bit low.
If they are to low, let me know, I got a solution for you

Do the non returns have springs in them?
Also, one small snail and the non return fails. I got tiny limpit snails in my downpipe, seems they like the flow.

Hmm, non returns can sometimes be a bit dodgy in marine tanks as riaanp mentioned. They tend to get blocked up by snails, hermits & other calcifying organisms like some of the tiny featherworms & other inverts.
You should perhaps just do a test & remove the non returns & switch off the return pumps to see if the sump can accommodate the overflow water. If it can then i wouldn't worry about it. You might just get an overflowing skimmer from time to time...

Did not think about what can get stuck there, will go look but I think the sump can take it, but will look at it now, thanks

What I done on the rebuild of Gesiggie nano
Gesiggie's fascination - Page 10 - Marine Aquariums South Africa

Basically the left part is what you need, a little glass box over the inlet. That looks like a slimline out the back overflow. On top a glass piece over it that overhangs to the front with 10mm, And 10mm slot opening under overhang. The opening is at exact same height as the normal overflow.

Water comes in and shoots out forward on the water surface level. Power goes out and you only have the water head in your tank that drains.

No need for any siphon breaks.

Works wonderful. Got the same setup on my 750L display. I loose 3mm head height on my 750L tank. Can hardly see the water level drop

    Good idea @RiaanP!!!
Jip @Lawrence 6, that is probably the neatest way to make the tank failsafe!
