Matt's 7L Pico tank

Nuke the aiptasia. It will slight;y increase alk, which the corals won't mind

Haha crispin: i'm a reefer AND a golfer! hehe loving this though. Also like that its a bit different to the norm :) mikeB is cool! he's not much of a computer person hehe :)

Update, these pics are with my point and shoot so little better quality than the iPhone photos.

These GSP openening up withing 20 mins of putting them in the tank. Also noticed 3 tiny starfish in this pic - are they good guys?

Top down shot. You can see the different types of coralline algae I have on the different pieces of rock. The scape has changed slightly since this, will post a pic once the dust has settled

Front shot of some new mushrooms I have - this pic came out a little dark - the sand bed is only about 1cm thick but looks DEEP here for some reason! You can clearly see the little blue starfish on the left, as well as the arms of the brittle stars extending out from the rocks/corals

One more of the stars. I have 3 of these tiny blue jobs, and about 6 small brittle stars. Because I have no bought livestock (all came as hitch hikers), I haven't bought any food. Should I be feeding these guys or will they find food from the pods etc in the live rock? I don't want to feed and end up increasing nitrates

Yip, those starfish are great little guys, I have hundreds of them.

crispin: So hopefully they'll scavenge and do alright from the little liverock in there? I've seen some pods running around at night so think the system is healthy :)

I have space for a fist sized piece of liverock so i'm sure that will also help

Haha yeah I just dont know whats better, 1/2kg more liverock or 500ml less water?

Bit of an update:

Started getting some diatoms on the sand bed - I know this can be associated with a new tank or it's an indication of phosphates/silicates? I only use RO to topup so i'm not sure of the source. I added some RowaPhos in a stocking in the rear chamber (made my tank a bit red/brown for a while which was a bit worrying but i read that it isn't harmful to livestock).

Some awesome RED macroalgae - Does anyone know what macroalgae this is? Hope it survives

Saw this dude cruising the front glass last night :) Thats the 3rd species of tiny starfish i've seen in this tank. Any idea of species?

Spotted two of his buddies (same species) under my GSP rock

Top down shot - you can see the diatoms starting on the LHS of the tank :(

Any idea on the diatoms? Is this just part of a new tank curing?

damn matt...looking very cool man.

Would you say the light is good enough?

I see the zoa's are looking very good...but the melon shroom looks the same as last weeks post?

I bought a 2nd LED and there's definitely enough light. The monti cap is showing polyp extension, and the zoo's and GSP are looking happy. Those shrooms were kind of thrown around a bit as I moved things so they aren't the happiest of chappies. hehe

I am actually rearranging things again tomorrow morning so you will see some more pissed off corals :) Will make a vid so you guys can see the shimmer effect from the LEDS!

o.k...quite nice to see that its high output leds.

Can you perhaps post your thread of upgrading the boyu tl550 with and extra pl tube on this thread please...or just revive it.

kukkieb wanst to see how it should be done.

thats a very cool thread...i cant find it i tried looking for it on the threads you created...but cant get it
