I would be suspicious of a unit that doesn't get very specific about their leds. With the cover, you cannot see them, but it appears they are the small lowpower leds. For a nano tank, this may work fine, but on a tank more than 12" or so deep, I think you will find them inadequate. Their lumens per watt ratio is too low.

Not that such units are completely useless, but their use is very limited (shallow nano tanks). This is a reason one needs to understand the various standards of leds and what they will bring you.

Surely this will still be better than my 2x18W tubes..?!! No matter how I search, nothing fit's in my Hood...as long as it's just better than what I got at the moment..

I have to agree with you there. How deep is the tank you have? If it is around 12", you'll be fine.
 
By the looks of it they are high output epistar leds.

Usually 1W leds driven a bit harder, say 400-450mA.

In my experience they are great bang for buck leds. Evolution led lights have started using those leds in their fixtures and they are getting some nice PAR readings and good coral growth.

Just aim at 14000K overall. 20K is a bit blue imo.

And yes belinda they'll rock your 18W tubes out of the water.

Thanks..I've come to realise I'm not a DIY person so I'm looking for anything better than what I got...:biggrin:..Don't think you can change the Fixture..so it will definately be a bit blue..:(

That translates to 18" high.

You don't need optics until you hit 24" or 60cm.

Its a good unit, just expensive, like most leds.

Good shot. And the extra specs help a lot. Still, with 36 high power leds running at 42 watts total, this doesn't make sense. After calculatin the controll wattage, this would sound like 1 watt leds. They are either running them very low power, or they are a different category/quality of led. Of course, with leds, wattage is misleading as it is the current relations that create the wattage, not the led itself. (amps x volt = watts)

Interesting! Just try it and let us all know. Affordable LED solutions for nanos and other shallow tanks are limited.

So both agree it's ok for my Nano..? Better by far than what I got..? Might just fit in my Hood also..so I can save for my "Xmas present"..?:biggrin:

My marineland led's came in. They are so Bright! I wish you could see the blues. The colors saturate the camera, when I try to take pics of the blues on. I've got an extra strip of blues, in case the corals need some additional.
I did opt for the 48" - 60" size, even though the smaller one would work for my 48" tank. Says lasts 50,000 hours.
It's got 46 1 watt whites (10,000k), and 8 1 watt blues (450k I think). I did get an extra strip of blues, in case my corals start looking like they need a bit more. I don't think I'll need them though. I've still got the glass covers on. I don't want to knock the light in the tank, and it will probably be easier to clean the covers than the lights' cover. The daylight setting is so realistic, and the blue is so blue! :D

I am..sigh but those LED's looks so good...just makes the Tank Display brighter..;) ...Hopefully I will be able to afford my "little" one by December...:(
