How to connect my skimmer correctly

Here is the proof and the pic doesn't show the real colour (as per normal) :whistling:

It is a very close to grass green

I promise you that is green like grass, the photo doesn't show.

I was advised by the board members to run wetter as the neck was getting clogged up with muck and I am told that is won't skim properly if this happens.

Thats some serious crud build up. No fleas on that skummer.

I would hazard ... not wet enough. I would shorten that crud column by half.

I was advised once every 3 days, should I do it more often ?
Hmmm, personal choice really. For those of the nervous persuasion... yes. For the lazy mongrels...two weeks . However for those lazy mongrels,... yes you, and you, and most men, should be doing it wet.

Yeah, it looks like this most of the time, except when I switch it off for pics.

What height must the water be up the neck or am I being stupid again :(

OK, I am lost, I have to check the atmospheric pressure, what do I need for this ?

LMAO that was funny warr :biglaugh:

all you need to do is adjust things like the water level and the air inlet until you get a nice skim foam that you want....some ppl skim alot hence the light colour of skimmate but others like me prefer the dark ultra concentrated method.....obviously the dark method is for lazy ppl as it needs cleaning only about after two weeks

So i can run the skim level at any level.

Just seems so confusing as there are so many schools of thought.

One says higher another so lower, one says dryer, wetter etc.etc.

Semms like one of those dark arts :)

You will find your skimmer performance changes along with the changes in atmospheric pressure, as in when there are thunderstorms in your area you will notice a difference in the performance of the skimmer.

Warren, the basics of good skimming is to try and have as little build up in the neck as possible. Apparently wet skimming (a more greener skimmate) is known to remove more phosphates. Anthony Calfo also constantly punts the fact that you should be getting 3 or 4 full cups of dark skimmate a week, I have never been able to achieve this and at most can only get two full cups a week. To achieve 4 full cups of skimmate a week I would have to run my skimmer so wet that the skimmate would probably be so light it would look like a cup of weak green tea. Whether this is beneficial or not, I don't know.

OK, then my setting at present is cool, I go through 2-3 cups a week. I have tried to not have neck build up, as you previously advised.

The PO4 idea makes sense, maybe that why i don't have Cyano :whistling:

Thanks for the advise and interesting info once again:thumbup1:

bear in mind that high skimming makes your water rather clinical....in which case you should probably run A UV light filter as your water is pretty much dead already so your not loosing much benificial organisms in the water....

Huh ??? I must run a UV filter for what reason ? Because I have dead organisms ?

I am not understanding this at all, remember I am a noobie dude and doff :)
