Hotdog's Maxed Out Reef 650

Awesome, would like to see what it looks like. You guys still doing family collection trips every year around March?
Ill post pics one day. First need to get the tank up to scratch. Been cycling for a year....so should be ready
Havent done collecting in years. Got a kid and other real life issues . Will teach the kid how to soon.

The tank is coming along ok, but saw today the yellow tang has developed some red on its fins and body, suspect it has something to do with the biopellets, so need to switch to a big algae scrubber soon as main source of nutrient export.

You can see the red marks on the YT here (the HLLE has been there a while, not sure what caused it, but not getting worse at least):

Then some other random fish pics:

Then I also had my kamohara blenny disappear without a trace, really not sure what happened to it, quite sad, was such a great fish. Suspect maybe one of these had something to do with its disappearance (nenny or snake eel):

Aw man, so sorry to hear about your blenny. It was one of my favourite fish in your tank :(

Love the eel!! Very cool - never seen one like that before :m07:

Going to try and build 2 algae scrubbers to be able to keep nitrates under control and also to take pellets offline. Started with design and had glass cut, now just need to save up to buy a proper 20k l/h pump to run the 2 of them (so selling odds and ends to raise the cash). Hopefully it works, there is always something that doesn’t work as expected, so will need to see once it is running. This is my idea in sump, a terrible attempt at SketchUp:

Haha, they get really pushy when I delay the feeding by an hour like yesterday.

I might be getting a 675 liter tank. Whats your favourite fish for a tank this size

For me it will have to be a type of Xanthichthys triggerfish, and in a pair, maybe a blue throat or crosshatch pair, I really like mine:

Could you please give me the specifics of the lighting on your tank. I really love the lighting setup you've got

Hi @Damien,

Basically the following:
3x100w Cree XTE chips off ebay (each has 20x5w indivdiual chips, half cool white, half royal blue), mounted on heatsink and with a pc fan blowing over them
2x80w T5’s, can’t remember specific colours
75x3w Improved Living Kit where I swapped out the one white strip (15x3w) with 10xViolet and 5xUV chips off ebay

Dual algae scrubber has been installed, in retrospect the 20k l/h pump is way too strong, running on 30%. But will probably need to up the flow once algae starts growing. The lights on scrubber are a 50w grow light on left, 2x5m led strip in middle (one strip cool white, other red), and a 100w cool white floodlight on right, want to see which one grows algae the best
