Frans's Ultra Shallow Reef

Thanks for all the comments guys , depth is really presenting a challenge or two regarding scaping.

I am planning on having the return come out from "within" the rocks, thus creating a "shoreline" environment to accomodate crabs etc....still have to work on this as I wany as little plumbing visible as possible. Thinking of drilling a hole in the base.

Inmates...Yip nennie is on the cards but I doubt a carpet, after seeing one take a lionfish for breakfast I will probably opt for something else.

Fish....some schooling chromis, clowns, maybe a small angel such as flame or so.

This is going to be a cool tank:thumbup:

WIP.....sorry for bad pics but cell.

Not connected to sump yet..should happen tomorrow...both sump and DT are running separately at this stage

very cool, going to be easy to light

Frans, wanted to ask you yesterday, you gonna get some Mangorves in there?

Finding them is the issue...:p

Thanx dallas...yah lights should be easy , I played with 54 W to get the effect...probably only going 4 x 80 W...will see how it pans out

Frans its looking insane dude , makes me wanna build one now too.

Thanx , either gonna be wicked ...or epic fail....

So trees, a little island and some big a$$ crabs and your on holiday for 365 days a year ;)

Minor update....

Tank has been running since last week (without skimmer , sump etc) and I did a first WC yesterday of about 50 %.

I am still playing around with scaping ideas as I would like to hide the return and Tunze's as much as possible.

Also havent decided yet on covering the background as the I am not sure if there will really be an effect with the tank being so shallow. Thoughts on this ?

Plumbing is FINALLY finished , so tomorrow sump, DSB etc is going in. Will hopefully get the lights done by week end....

ja, put a background.
Tanks just look half naked without backgrounds.

shallow looks appealing now, finish off the scaping man, maybe il be fully convinced:whistling:

Very nice! Wow!

Was just wondering if the door next to the tank has one of those rubber stoppers on the floor? Was imagining the wind opening the door fast and that doorknob ... oh never mind let's not have thought like that :)

Thanx chas84 , still a huge work in progress.

No luckily I had those thoughts before I put the tank down (having a busy 3 year old makes you look at all the possible risks !), the recess in which the tank is standing blocks the door from openin to a full 180 degr so there is about 30 cm space between door and glass

Think I'm more or less happy with scaping

The idea is to have some seagrass / macro algae on the sandy area and then lead up to LSP & softies....maybe a monti or two as well

Thoughts / comments ??
