Hennie, well done on a excellent and healthy looking tank. If you don't mind I would love to come and have a look in person next time I'n visiting my brother in Bloemfontein. Gerrit.

I have just reread this and must say Hennie its inspirational:thumbup:

Hi Hennie

Reading through this great tank's thread again.

Question: How do you keep your lionfish from eating the other smaller fish

Question: How do you keep your lionfish from eating the other smaller fish

Just keep the smaller fish larger than the Lion's mouth :)

The lionfish will only prey on fish small enough to fit into his mouth. All my other fish are too large to fit, and are thus not considered as prey (yet...). As the Lion grows, his prey does become larger, and he has already started eyeing my smaller chromis.

Lions make absolutely wonderful pets, coming to greet me as I approach the tank, and always swimming close to my hand looking for whatever I disturb when I need to work inside the tank.

This thread covers most of your questions: Using industrial controllers for a marine aquarium - Measuring Equipment

Shout if there's anything specific you need to know, and I will gladly try to help.

hennie just a quick question, where do you get your phillips t8 40w actinic from?

I order them "by the box full" from a specialist lighting supplier in Johannesburg - If I remember correctly, they are called Lightlines" - not 100% on the name, as it's been a few years since I've last ordered. I'm down to my last two bulbs, though, so I suppose I will have to dig out their details soon - will see if I can do so this weekend, but suspect that I won't have time until at least next weekend...

Well, last time I bought was a few years ago, so the price will not be nearly the same, but if memory serves I paid about R45.00 per tube.

and lumens output ?

No idea - but two of them on my 1.8m tank really makes the corals fluoresce very nicely. I would not be too concerned about lumens, as these lights are mostly for aesthetics.

Reef Maniac this is one beautiful system...
One question tho if you do not mind...
Is this system still exactly the same or not if yes or no could you please post a few pics

Yup, still pretty much the same, except for that large euphyllia on the right, which I've fragged some months ago (and gave away frags to quite a few Masadonians on the Rand...). I also squeezed in a few more corals which I "rescued" from a local guy who gave up his tank.

I'm quite busy, and work far away from my home, so don't expect photos until at least next weekend - perhaps only the following one...
