Once a Elegance coral show signs of damage, it is already too late. Very difficult to save it.

The elegance corals from Indo come from deeper water now and we shock them with our heavy lighting. They used to be seen as a beginners LPS!

Now the new stock coming in from Vietnam is being collected from shallow water and they survival rate is much much higher

I don't think there are any lps coming in on Vietnam shipments though...pity as I would love an elegance that stands a chance at surviving.

I got mine almost a year ago and it just growing. They have 2 for a couple of months now.
They looking great, I think the success of any coral is water quality and feeding.
I've seen elegance in at least 4 lfs's in cape town. But Perkies looks bigger an healthier.
@Perky pets superstore. Some info on where you got the corals and maybe some pics on health.

Oh yes the carpets...we don't get them in though.. they are not at all popular in east London. Got them in on first Vietnam order ans they still sitting there. I think I was the only person to buy any.

I am going to have a word with our lfs about these lps for sure.

I have had my Elegance now for over 3 months and it is growing like wildfire ;)

I am not sure why because when it first arrived it shrunk back into itself and I did not think it would make it. Weeks went by where it would come out and then just as quick shrink back into its skeleton. An entire 2 months passed and eventually now it is out all the time and almost doubled in size

Its strange because my tank has never been 100% as I dont have a sump, amazing lighting or a proper skimmer but yet this coral has flourished. Where it is from I have no idea but I have a suspicion its from Vietnam. Here is a picture of it up close :)

Lol it doesn't look too happy from that pic...retracted tenticles and all :p

The lack of skimmer and lighting is probably working in it's favour as it prefers more nutrient rich and lower lighting water conditions.

I took the photo a day after cleaning the tank and there was a few pieces of debris which fell onto it. I have read that this causes the Elegance to swell up in order to remove the debris from itself. Otherwise I just posted the picture to show how pretty it really is

I will take another picture today sometime to show you in all its glory sir ;)

As Kunhardt said this is often a reason for them doing well as they come out of turbid, high nutrient water often. It's also another reason why they were so great in the old days when we only had crap lighting available to us and hadn't developed the great skimmers or techniques for nutrient removal we have today.

And yes I think that the Vietnamese elegance do seem tougher (less over-extended fisheries at this stage). Possibly due to them being far stricter on how much gets removed, by restricting CITES permits I assume, so well done to Vietnam for hopefully protecting their resources better.:)
