Display tank filters?

It can also be the substrate that was maybe not washed properly and now when ever it is disturbed, it kicks up the small particles? Or this or the return pump is somehow chopping up bubbles or sucking up sand/particles/impurities, etc from the sump which makes it into the return chamber and then discharges it in the main display.

Do you still have the gobies?

How are your circulation pumps set up? I have two overflows and have a circulation pump right under it. The moment any detritus gets near that overflow, the circulation pumps sucks it in and throws it straight back into the tank.

Yes, still have the 2 Gobies .. I drew a very crude pic on paint to give you a idea of how the powerheads are at the moment (top view)

I'm running ozone through my skimmer. And that does help a lot with the yellowing of the water. Makes it clear. It removes the DOC mainly, Dissolved organic compound. It runs for 45 minutes in the morning and late afternoon.

But you got particles that drift around. Obviously it does not get the change to settle or if it does, its blown up again by fish or the flow changing. Most likely it will not settle, ads long as you change the pump directions every day. Let it be. Leave it for a couple of days and see what then.

Other thing might be that the height of the water over the overflow is too low, or not strong enough. So it does not pull the particles close by over in the current. What happens if you up your return pump. For testing, maybe add another return pump for a couple of days, so that the amount of water that goes over increases. The head height of the water above the overflow glass should be increased.
