morning all

just noticed that my tanks base is cracked (horizontally), it is a double base and its the outside base thats cracked, it happened when we did the stand swop on Saturday should i be concerned or will it be fine seeing that it is a double base?

tank 200 x 80 x 60 ( about 960li)

If it was me, I would rather break it down and build up again than risk a tank collapse that spills 1000L of seawater

If not leaking then its ok
I know of 2 big tanks where one of the base panes are cracked and running without issues.

But as they say, a picture says a thousand words.

Even Rob the reefbuilder big build got a cracked base. As well as the old display tank at Dorry Pets. And they are running all fine.

It does depend on the type of crack. If its leaking or not. Picture will help.

The question is will the crack run or not if no its not necessary to repair unless you want more piece of mind.

is the crack from end to end... if not then you can monitor and see if it gets bigger (longer) which would indicate that the pressure might be too much to be safe. if the crack stays the same lenght then there isnt much to worry about imo

Its cracked from side to side(no leaking)

Yes its from end to end

Ag , decided to leave the tank as it is if it should burst so be it,just tired of spending money on this tank

lol.. then this isnt the hobby for you bud.... if you leave things to chance they will go wrong... you may feel dispondant now but later on when your tank starts looking good and you realise the value you have accumulated in coral and fish etc that crack may bother you..

good luck with your decision...

if the crack has run from side to side im sure it will be fine... is it the inner or outer glass thats cracked on the base?

only problem with that is he wont be able to see if the crack is gonna get bigger giving him indication of how much pressure the glass is under.

unless its had an impact point which could lead to multiple run offs from that point i think that this crack will stay stable.. im still not saying leave it..but i cant see this crack going anywhere from the picture i have seen...

Any idea why it cracked?
Id be worried that the stand isn't right which means the other piece may also crack once the tank has some weight in it.
I'd rather fix it now, that cack will always be in the back of your mind.
