This Winter has been colder than normal esp this last week. On Friday morning my tank hit a low of 21deg by yesterday afternoon bang white spot on all the fish. So off to the shops for another 2 x 250w heaters. Holding thumbs for the mean time,
Damn haven't had WS for years.

Hope the white spot takes care of itself. I would have thought that warmer than usual water would exasperate whitespot?

Should do, just need to get the temps up above the 24deg's at this point. Any water conditions that stress the fish will bring on WS. The advantage of warmer water is that is speeds up the life cycle of the WS and increases metabolism in the fish so they end up eating more, the more they eat the stronger they get.

Sorry to hear budds. Hope it clears. And i agree this winter has been cold, been putting my chiller on heat the past week during night time as the temp drops faster than the two heaters can heat the water. Room temp in my dining room is 10C in the mornings at six.

HHHmmmm - that's very interesting Alan. What temp do you usually run your tank at?

My tank averages 24 degrees... during the nighttime, the temp drops to 22/23. I have not had whitespot in FOREVER..... My skimmer acts like a "chiller", as the water in the skimmer get's very cold, very quickly... BUT, I have a 300 watt heater in my tank's sump, and one inside my tank itself.....

Normally around the 26 mark, when you start getting to the 22 mark you could start getting WS depending on where your fish come from, tropical fish are very sensitive to cooler water.

Its been a fairly cold winter, this last week Durbs got to a low of 7 with a high of 13, now that may not be too bad where you are but its bloody cold here esp as we not geared for it.

Extra stress of the fish, my fish are still recovering from the temp swing before i added another heater.
