Ayoob's SPS dominated Cube

Thanks, hope it gets there When all grown out.

Ya its hard to say now how it will eventually pan out...sps can go well for a couple months then the slightest thing makes them unhappy and they peg. :p Best is getting your hands on aqua cultured or frags from fellow reefers to start with these usually do the best long term and take changes to the system a lot better than the average colonies that are imported.

lol thought so. Nah the 450L is 120 * 50 *70 h with 2 3 foot sump.:whistling:

That is nice and deep hey. New tank will probably be around 2m x 0.35m high i was thinking in that range. Want to keep water volume low

Yip the main reason for downgrading.
That is keeping it low hey.

So true. I've also been thinking the exact same. Was Reading a lot about RTN and made me worried about purchasing these coral. But I guess to quarantine the coral would also be a good step and precaution. Not sure but I think these coral I buy are aqua cultured because they come on little small pieces of LR sometimes with tags on them as well. so it could most likely be that they are been fragged and stuck onto LR and back into the sea to grow. Will find Out by my LFS. Thanks for the good pointers.

Yeah but some fish require and love the height.:p

Ya I've had hit and miss luck with those store bought pieces...some did really well for a month or 2 then died back completely, some died completely after a couple of days, and some died back a bit at the start and then were bullet proof after that...I cant actually think of one that was 100% from start til end, weird. :p

Chiller though I found was of utmost importance, was able to keep all parameters stable but when it came to summer and constant temps over 30 degrees my sps really suffered and I lost a lot of them...added a chiller this year and had no issues with them this summer at all.

what scares me the most is the fact that masa has gone sps crazy overnight:p with tanks like spsmad, ayoobs and many more.... newbies now think its ok to buy sps lol,its like people for got what effort needs to go into sps... i count myself as one of them but hey, i been reefn long enough i think lol so im trying a coupla frags and suprisingly, they colouring up and grown after just 2weeks

but again, big ups to the sps guys, and thanks for inspiring more reefers to go the sps route, truly is a magnificent species of coral

SPS arent difficult at the start if you have good lighting and clean system...it becomes difficult down the line when all those calcium absorbing corals suck your system dry of all its elements and you have to keep everything in balance. Thats more the reason they say its for more experienced reefers...you need to know about your system and how your water chemistry works and know what to raise or drop to keep everything balanced.

I must add that my tank that should be up and running in a few months has been inspired by ayoobs tank and just dig reading about your tank and all your livestock etc.

tank is looking great!!!:yeahdude:

Dude that "special" frag is no more.:(
:cursing:!@#$ coral coby cleaned it out and have just moved onto another frag, the smaller one. Cant remember the name.

Gona need another special one after I make away with the coral goby.:whistling:

!@#$ goby now took out 2 of the frags. And I still cant catch it out. Looks like I'm gona get that lionfish after all, that way I wouldnt have to catch it out lol.:whistling:

Dahm that's a pain buying coral and having bad luck. Thanks for the valuable tips will definitely be learning by your mistakes made. Will look into adding a chiller soon. Had a temperature problem about 2 weeks back was @ 28,5 degrees but I've sourced the problem, the heater needed calibration so now its all sorted.
My temp doesn't touch the 27 degree mark, but lets see closer to summer.:whistling:

Thanks, appreciate you compliments. Good luck, sure you can pull it off to even be better than mine;)

I'm still too scared to get SPS after 2 years in the hobby!!!!

We all afraid of what can happen, But how will one ever learn if you dont try.;)

That is one bad ass goby you got there, still don't think he deserves to be a meal:lol: his way to cute. Do what seraaj did and siphon it out that's probably the only way, unless you want to rescape.

Lol he is getting on my last nerve, and dont care how cute he is.:whistling:
Pondering taking the tank apart to sort out the overflow problem, will start a thread later on it and see what they guys suggest I do. So will see how it goes.

Have you thought of a overflow box? Thats going to be to much of a hassle. Unless you want to buy my tank when I get to upgrade:whistling:
