Ashraf's window into the reef

WOW amalick your engine room is trully amazing. Very neat aswell for the amount of things you have there! You've definitly come along in leaps and bounds since your previous tank! Now, dont be offended by this, its only an observation, but your tank looks very brown? As in the rocks and the corals and everything. I remember you used to have a fair amount of colour. Did something happen to your previous livestock that i missed?

No offense taken , in fact your not the 1st one to make this observation. I basically still have my old coral collection and many more new additions. I suspect that the lack of colour (or perception thereof) comes from the impact of the extreme coraline growth all over the rocks and my rear glass panel. I also think it has something to do with the "brightness" of the 3 x 150w MH units that light up the tank.

When I turn them off an only run my T5's things look a lot better. I also think its my NOOB photographer skills.

I will take a pic this evening with the MH's off to see if it still seems bland. I run about 8 T5's across the colour spectrum.

I also have a fetish for softies which seem to be very "brown" as provided by the Cape Town LFS's.

Ive concluded that its my very weak photography skills. Here is the Full tank shot without MH's on as promised. It really does not look like this in person though

I think I need to spend some bucks on corals I typicaly would not buy (e.g Moon Rocks or Zoo's etc..). I just find it hard to lay out over R400 per coral for corals that seem deviod of life:whistling:

My Reef Video

I thought I would try something different so I made a video instead of taking pics. I reduced the quality of the video to the lowest possible setting to save you guys bandwidth.

My next thread will be a higher quality one for those who dont care about the hgher bandwidth LOL

Very nice!!!!Heard u nearly bought out all Frans stock:lol:
Take some close ups of the newly acquired more colourful corals;)

Higher Quality Video

This one is 23mb big, so if your worried about bandwidth dont watch it !

Its strange, but even on video the colours dont really show up, I think it has something do do with the ambient light in the room that confuses the camera:(

Engine room (low quality) next..

Yip it's comming into it's own now .. well done ashraf .. th automation work is something special ....

Amalick, I've really enjoyed reading about your journey so far.
Learned lots from your experiences and trials. Tank is really maturing nicely and I like the work you've done in your engine room.

One question if you dont mind.
Your QT tank is 100L. How do you filter the system?

Thanks for the compliments:yeahdude:

Everytime I do a water change in my DT the affluent is drained into my qt. Its kinda plumbed that way via my water change automation. This seems to work well in that once a week my QT gets a 100% water change with water that is full of life. Of course if I have live stock in the QT I reduce the amount of water i'm changing.

In the tank itself I have a wiepro skimmer, hang on filter and heater which runs permanently. When I medicate I switch off the skimmer. I also have a airstone that is connected to my UPS supply in case of power outages.

Hey Guys - Was lying lazily in front of my tank and felt like posting an update, since its been a while. Will take some pics since the video colours just dont look that good.

Yeh lying around. :p

Tank looks superb and super clean. Might offer you a job one day. :whistling:

Very well done.
