Anemone propagation

Looking good Calvin

Awesome Calvin! Would either you or Brenda perhaps know whether anemone propagation would work better on some types of anemone's, than others?

I am not aware of any that can not be propagated.

See Calfo's comment here: http://forum.marinedepot.com/Topic43860-13-1.aspx

"I (and many others) have successfully cut every anemone known in the trade (though in my case excluding Heteractis magnifica... because I don't think it should be collected or used in the hobby at all... and must practice what I preach)."

i know this thread is old... but does any one know how long before you can frag the new anemones?.... or how many times an anemone can be fragged.... can the frags mate?

depends on what you mean by a new nennie...... newly cut or a new nennie to start the propogation.

if a recently cut nennie, people vary in advice given, but anywhere from 2 to 6 weeks with 4 weeks being generally accepted as a good average

If a new nennie as in the first one and a new introduction to the system this is highly dependant on the water conditions, amount the nennie is being fed, stress from transportation... my guess is anything from 3 to 6 months. The nennie must be in PRIME condition before cutting is attempted

In theory a daughter (clone nennie) can be fragged an infinite number of times, given sufficient water conditions, feeding and of course time to recover between cutting

As i understand it (and i may be wrong) nennies reproduce asexually..... i.e. they do not mate. I am not sure if there is such a thing as nennie spawning???? anyone else want to venture a guess on this one

I have seen a mates tank where bubble tip anemones 'budded'...
He started with 2 and ended up with a tank of about 50, no jokes!!! ended up wipping out his system!:(
I'm sure I read somewhere they do this if they are unhappy???:whistling:

I have sliced many with varying success. The whole 2 week story is in my experience a bit optimistic. I am now trying to cut ever 3 months.
