3 gal pico (build thread)

Yep, no phosphate (had my water tested at the LFS this morning.) Still, thanks for the suggestion about nopox! I did have about 0.25 phos earlier last month, but frequent WCs eventually took care of that.

Luckily, the gha has all but stopped growing, now I just need to get around to pulling out the remaining clumps (I've been really busy with other aspects of life in general and other parts of this build lol.)

By the way, is anyone else here from Illinois?

Not sure.

Most of the guys on this forum is from South Africa. There are a couple of international members, from USA, Norway, England, Australia. Click the Webmap at the bottom of the home page and you will see. US is the second biggest group of visitors to this forum, after South Africa.

That's about what I expected (I joined this forum partly just to meet aquarists from so far away! )

In case you haven't guessed I'm from central Illinois, USA. I think it's really neat that reefing is something people do everywhere! Although I must say I didn't actually understand at first why everyone here kept referring to the Rand rather than the American Dollar haha

Hello again,
It's been a while and the tank just turned 1 year old. Tons of things have changed, but my eventual goal is to turn this into a nice sps reef with some scolymia, plates, and acans on the sand bed. And I got a 120w LED fixture for this tank :)

Here's a FTS:

love it, look how those rics have grown, wowsers, good going

Great pico

Wow beautiful tank

Thank you!

Stunning tank, what lights are you running?

Thanks! I'm running the MR120 Led panel from eBay, $90 shipped. My older browned sps are quickly coloring back up just in the past week I've had the new panel.

Thanks, I used to feed the big orange one, but stopped because it got too big.

Great pico

Thanks man, it's going well but I'm planning on moving the HOB fuge into a mini sump, underneath the tank.

New corals in the FTS:

The slimer and tenuis are pretty bleached, but polyp extension is good and they seem to be moving forwards.

one of the best small tanks. And being older than 1 year is great. Guys normally pack up or upgrade long before that.

Great work. Looks very nice.

Thank you! I'm planning to keep this one going for as long as possible, and definitely another year (college in two years, so that's a whole new challenge.)

Eventually I'm going to turn this build full sps, with an auto-dosing setup for kalk, alk, and maybe magnesium.

Very impressive. How do you manage the temps? I had a 8 gal and that was hard until I got a temp controller and fans but for 3 gal dont think thats an option

Thanks, for the most part the room temp is below 78 degrees F, so the heater can make up for the difference in temp (but not when the room temp is above 78.)

During the summer I install a window air conditioner, will keeps the room temp consistently below 78, and the heater makes up for the rest.

5 new sps frags should be here Friday! I'm ordering them tomorrow.
-Moonbeam acro
-Slim Jim acro
-Tricolor validate
-Unidentified green-blue acro
-Turquoise staghorn

Do you still have space for more corals?
Anyway, a very nice small tank.
