Hi guys, for all the people that doesn´t know me, my name is Marcel. I am German, not proud of it, but that is a fact.
I live in Cape Town now for three years and started in the beginning of this year with a small breeding set up. This set up is now a bit bigger and is going to be very big next year.
I had at IMACSA 2009 my speech, my first speech ever and in English. I was so nervous, but I managed that part well. I was told so!;)

My albino clowns were shown to the public for the first time. I donated four of my albinos to the Two Oceans Aquarium for their exhibition.

Thanks to Trevor Kessel for taking this picture and my avatar as well.

If you want to know something, feel free to ask.

Marcel

HEY Marcel. Nice to see you back online. Looking forward to all that you have to Share.

Btw: there is No reason why you should be sorry for being german, Its your heritage be Proud at the end of the day we are all People.

May I be the absolute first here on MASA to welcome you Marcel! Fantastic to have you on-board! Many thanks for joining MASA.

Can you possibly please elaborate on you total marine experience - and whether you have your own marine display tank as well?
If you do have - can you please elaborate on your own personal tank as well?

I am quite sure many people will have a LOT of questions regarding your clown breeding experience! Many people here on MASA have tried, and not many have been successful....

So - I hope that you don't mind elaborating, and sharing your knowledge and experience!

I've heard rumours that Marcel built himself a small, cute little tanky-pooh back in Germany :whistling:
Didn't quite qualify as a nano, as I understand.

Ziyaad, I forgot to mention, you convinced me to join Masa. At least the people can blame you, in case I go mad.;)
I had a chat with ziyaadb on reefcentral. That´s why I joined this board now.

German, let´s put it that way. I am proud to have french and spanish blood as well.
Maybe that´s why I struggle to socialize with Germans. But anyway, here I am.

What the f.. you are talking about, Q?
Are you talking about my messy cube?
No ways, I don´t post pictures of that thing.

No, I am building myself a new big and beautiful tank. In your living room and with your money.

Welcome to the forum Marcel, Germans are cool, especially if they go mad :p

Would love to hear some more about your clown breeding setup as well as some photo's of everything.:)

And do tell us more about your marine tank, if you've got one.

Well - Marcel! What you waiting for mate? Where's da pics? Please? ;)

Okay, just briefly. I started in 1995 with 240 litre, upgraded in 1996 to 500 litre.
In 2003 I filled my monster. 5.500 litre, six running metre reef, 1000 kg rock, 3 metalhalides each 1000 W, 2 pumps each 23.000 l/h, what else?

Hey Marcel, great to have you on this board friend :) welcome and I hope you enjoy your stay, there are great and knowledgable guys here, and some stupid dudes like me that are going to bug you every step of the way about rotifers and how to get those egg things to grow up into nemo's . . . Once again, welcome to masa.

About the breeding. Also just briefly.

If I got enough algae and rotifer going, I raise clowns with more than 90% survival rate. Did it many times.
I also caught a marine ich break out and lost 450 fish, including 200 albinos.
So i am experienced in both ways, life and death.
I caught that stupid Ich again two weeks ago. Lost 30 albinos, but I won. The rest is fine now and the Ich problem is also solved.

I am on my way to became a full time breeder. Proaquatix from Florida got the world distribution rights for my albinos, except South Africa.
Besides the albinos, I want to import picasso clowns from Proaquatix and dottybacks.
And for sure, I want to breed all the clowns, that you guys need.
I am busy with a business plan for a hatchery with 30 broodstock pairs and 30.000 juveniles.
I am targeting to breed damsels in quantity, mandarins and I want to come behind the secrets of breeding shrimps and dwarf angels.

Still 20 years to go, so I will be busy, very busy.

What else do you want to know, Jacques?;)

Woah! That tank is amazing. I love the "depth" on the right hand side, like a real slice of ocean... Welcome to MASA Marcel, some cool clowns there...

Yeah, the depth. 1.8m
Length 3,1m
Depth left 1.0m
Hight screen 1.0 m
Hight water column 1.15

Wait, I show you cool clowns.

For a better understanding of the depth from this tank.
The pillar!

I hope it is clear, that tank I had, when I was still in Germany.

Jacques,

how is it going with the family?
Disappeared, yes. Disappeared from SARK. Long story.
Your female is bloody greedy. I expect them to spawn soon. It is always a mission to move spawning fish. In your case, even worse.
Did I tell you, I moved my albino parents in their pot with their eggs. The hatched 3 days after they where moved. 2 days after the hatch, they laid the next lot in the new tank.
You can call me always until 11pm, but never before 10am. That means not, I am still sleeping. That time from 8 til 10 I need for my babies.

Advice for all!!!
If you have to move spawning pairs, always move them with their eggs. Never without, otherwise they stop spawning for a few weeks or few months.

Family is doing great mate!! I heard what kind of happened but you can tell me the long story in the morning.
That female of mine was always a greedy little thing, I'm sure they'll give you loads of offspring... As you know, did not have much choice as my tank burst. It's awesome that you still keep on having so much success with your hatchery!! I must definitely come pop in again and have a look at how everyone is growing.
