Hi Guys

I thought i would share this with you, cuase i just love my these fishies of mine.

My Red Jewels decided this morning the weather is looking good for making babies.:thumbup:

Sorry for the bad pics.

Does anyone know what will be the best to feed the young after their yolk sacks are done? Newly hatched brine shrimp and daphnia?

Congrats man
Ordinary crushed flake food should do the trick. Oh btw they will become terrors and could possible kill all the other tank mates. or are these in a tank of their own?
 
Congrats Johan, when I was Cichlids (had a few species) mine used to do this regularly. Seemed like especially the jewels liked a bit less than pristine water.

Brine shrimp for a 2 weeks or so and then daphnia.

BTW: remove the parents before they go into another spwaning cycle or they will chouw the fry

well done fella:) i bred a number of batches and then had them in my resivoire on the farm with a solar heated system to keep the water temp up. they are fantastic snail eaters and the colours seemed to really pic up with snails as a diet. i use to breed lots of malawian chiclids and then snorkel with them in there, wasnt exatly pristine water but worked well:)

They are in a tank of their own. They did however terrorize the other fish almost to death a couple months ago and had to move them to another tank.

Fransny - How would I know when the time is right to remove the parents? When mamma's tummy start swelling again from all the eggs?

Crispin - that must have been awesome to swim with the buggers!
 
i had around 6000 chichlids of varies species in there, it was indeed fantastic fun, but if you ever get the chance to snorkel the northern sections of lake malawi it truley is amazing :)

ps i am thrilled to say bath water is in my past

Its on its way out here by me too.... slowly. I didnt think a marine setup is gonna get the bank manager upset, so my setup will take a little while still. :(

Hopefully my 1st one (1.2m) will be ready and the LR can be in end of Jan 2010 and hopefully by March the fish will come one by one. Then Hopefully by 2011 I'll be able to get a 2m up and running. Geeze its sounds so far away.:cursing:

But as saying goes.... good things comes to those wait.:cursing:

No honestly Henk I didnt know that. Thanx for informing. But then a gain I would go bathtub again :p

Johan I always removed mine as soon as I switched over on the food (BTW you can also try mashed pellets). Just something that I have noticed, the adults seem to be more relaxed if you leave a few fry with them

No never knew can you please explain why? and why are the normal malawis not on the same list as well?
 
they are HIGHLY invasive - ie breed like hamsters - will very happily live in our rivers. They arent from the rift valley but actually from west africa

Eish??!! I didn't know they have the same status as bass! :( I hate bass! Takes over everything related to bathwater!!!

So what must I do? Burn them all???:arghh:

Man its lotsa fun catching bass. Much better than Dirty Carp
 
Eish man, I'll have to cull them then, I wanna start a marine tank and if i have 200 jewels to look after my whole house will be full of tanks full of jewels! :-(

I wanna get rid of the bath water!!
 
get something that will eat them - like a tiger shovel nose :D

i have a very hungry one here
