Hi Guys
I read through this thread today and was both shocked and concerned. I of course know that water and electricity does not mix but never really paid any attention to it until today. My tank is now 4 months old and was started with all brand new equipment. I have always felt that there is some current in the tank when I stuck my hand in the water especially if I have a little nick or scratch on my hand or fingers. Sometimes during the middle of the night when I cant sleep I will go have a smoke in the living room and notice what appears to be a flash in the tank but never paid attention to it thinking that i am halve asleep and imagining things. After reading what happened to Herkie I will be turning all the equipment in the tank off before touching the water but I have a few questions.
1. Someone mentioned emf being produced by the lights. If we had no equipment in the water at all would this still be a concern? So basically if I turned off and unplugged all equipment in the water can I leave the lights on without fear of being electrocuted?
2. If I had absolutely no equipment in the water(which can be achieved at a cost) would electrocution still be a concern or can one work safely in the tank without having to worry?
3. Should we be concerned about the probes attached to controllers to measure temp or ph for instance?
I dont know much about electricity hence me asking the questions. If question 2 is viable then I see a new tank in my near future
