Rob's tank and greenhouse

Ah sorry man! You too right. Now that I thought of it - Prado hey? AWESOME CAR! Congrats mate!

You should PM (or SMS) me your address - I would love to come and check this "shed" out - once it is completed!

BTW: That sounds great.... please do. Unfortunately, I am out on the road a lot too.....(visiting customers)....

wow rob that does look like an incredible project, when i thought of an update i had no idea you would be moving so fast (somehow i think everyone with the name rob builds tanks and things as slow as bob the reef builder:) just teasing!)

hats off to you fella, you plan big and go big i am sure its been back breaking sweat, but i am sure it will all come together!

i think there is a similar thing in holland, i'll see if i can find out about it for you.

the overall plans for this is to grow corals and sell to local market, then expand to export? or are you looking at doing fish as well?

rob are you keeping accurate plans and blue prints? I am thinking of doing a smaller scale frag out area in Norway and a green house makes the most sence, could i pick your brains if i win the lotto and get it going?

Jacques, cool, I'll PM you contact details, then come by when you're in my neck of the woods.

Have you given any thought to the type of corals that you'll grow?

A bit of everything. Anything that interests me. My main tank will be stony corals, so a lot of frags for trade for that.

somehow i think everyone with the name rob builds tanks and things as slow as bob the reef builder

Yeah, I sympathise with Rob. There's always some problem or setback. My big tank has been sitting incomplete for months.

For now it's just fun and games. Most of the tubs will be algae scrubbers/refugiums for the main tank for some time.

rob are you keeping accurate plans and blue prints?

Sure :) I'll send you the greenhouse steel PDFs if you want. You should be able to take it to any normal steel engineer and he'll knock it up for you.

Well, I suppose I use the term loosely. I mean permanently submerged macroalgae rather than a proper ATS.
itresting. I have some great macro algaes grown off LR i brought in norway, deep reds and tough stuff, but atleast 4 distinct species. almost as attractive as some of the corrals, but hell for detritus collection! :(

i think some places (kenya for example) have a rep for sending LR with macro's on it, ask some of the sponsors what sort of LR they get in and you might get a good species diversity:)

Hi rob

On your piping you are going from pvc to poly just be careful of those compression fittings on the poly pipe on a suction line the tend to suck air. A better option will be to go with a insert warm the pipe and silicone the insert and then clamp. 2C

Gr8 project and been watching as well - just one question though how long are your arms if those tanks are permanently positioned?

Cheers

Crispin, I was thinking of "bioprospecting" local rock pools for algae species which occur here and also in warmer water. Might be able to get them to acclimate.

Mudshark, no sand on the bottom for frag tanks, but I'll probably use sand for refugium/macroalgae tanks. I'll use egg crate or polyethylene trays for the frags.

Thanks for the tip, David. The poly/pvc connecters will be pressure tested in the next couple of weeks.

Martin, I'm 6'2", the tanks are 1.2m deep and around 650mm tall, so yeah, I can just reach the back corner :)

Man oh man, congratulations on making your dream a reality. Many people will be put off by the shear magnitude of such an undertaking (me included), WELL DONE! I will keep an eye on this one (may take some time, but good things take time)!

So the gable tops are in:

And here's the Plexiglass for the East gable:

Gonna have some fun making up the windows for it.

Awesome build Rob,
The sheer magnitude of this build is amazing. Just 1 question, where did you get those blue tubs from? They look like they could come in handy.
cheers

Thanks for the info Rob,
Please keep us informed of your progress.
Cheers

Great project will be following this thread...Well done thus far...please do keep us up to date...
