Ullo people.

I've been having electrical problems in my house. So I've been advised to rewire the entire house. I got a quote of R6000 to rewire the lights, plugs and db board excluding parts, just labour. It's roughly about 10 rooms including bathrroom and toilet.

Do you guys think this quote is reasonable? The electrician also wants to remove the conduits and just use surfix wire. Please people any advice would be highly appreciated.

How many electrical points. I think they base their quotes based on the amount of points they have to connect. So if there is roughly 36 points in your house he is charging about 170 per point. Its quite reasonable. i would advise not to remove the conduits.

Thanks Keyaam. I count roughly 40 points. I was also thinking the conduits should stay

Its a safety measure and if you decide to sell the house, electrical inspection will slap you!!!

Well this guy says using the surfix cable is legal.

Awvince i have a person u can call and see his pricing, will PM u incase i cant put it here

Awvince, labour is actually the minor cost, get a full written estimate (if hes any good he should be able to do this), as for surfix im not too sure as inspections only test amp "trip" points, load per circuit etc, not physical installation as such.
im wondering if it is legal why is everybody still using conduit ?

Sparkies feel free to correct me

Pricing is very good and yes surfex is legal, just make sure you get a Certificate of Compliance from the sparky when he is finished or you could end up with a massive bill when you sell one day or worse a fire that wont be covered by insurance.

Incorrect its all checked for a C.O.C.

Surfex was basically legalised for low cost housing, cant have 2 sets of rules. Conduit is definitely a better system, but is far more costly and labour intensive.
